Figured out what's bothering me about the new graphic pen, besides the brushes -- it's pressure-sensitive, but the relationship between pressure, the width of the line, and the strength of the line has changed. I can't seem to get a line that looks inked or painted rather than airbrushed. This is probably a practice issue and a brush issue. *commences to practice, with the aid of
an incident from dear_mun*
This is where I am right now: scribbly, uneven linework. The eraser tool has the same issues as the brush tool. Even if I cleaned up the scribbliness, it would take lots of touch-up work with the eraser and tiny, tiny brushes to get the lines to just be the same weight, much less have the natural variations I was liking from my old Photoshop. But I shall persist.
Still working on managing line width. I really need to go into the tablet settings and figure this out.
(This picture also highlights how I frequently rely more on props -- hair, scarf, eyes -- than actual features to represent a character. I'm pretty sure the structure of his face is completely wrong. Hmmmm.)
*shuts freezer door now that apartment is at an almost-livable level of heat*
Will be practicing more tonight, but must go get chocolate first. After which the freezer door will be opened again. Darn this heat.
