Nice day. Not so hot this week. Ah, September.

Ichigo: "Old man Zangetsu... why!?"
Zangetsu: "I'm tired of that world inside your head. There is no greenery, only buildings. I want to see a forest; I want to see the great outdoors!"
Ichigo: "....................I'll grow you a garden?"

*sporfle*

That was just one of the previews, though; no such dialog exists in the actual episodes. In fact, Zangetsu is completely silent during his entire fight with Ichigo. The only time he speaks is to comment to Murimasa that Shiro is "another soul" that shares Ichigo's headspace with him. Also, there WAS greenery in Ichigo's inner world during Zangetsu's first appearance, which was the only time we saw the ground; however, the world was falling apart during that time, so we can't be certain that the shrubs were naturally there. That makes it hard to pin down Zangetsu's real motivations here; presumably the 'voice' he was hearing at the beginning of the arc was Murimasa telling him to follow his instincts, and yet he did nothing until he got pulled out of Ichigo's soul by force.

Ichigo: "..Are you really serious about this, old man!?"
Zangetsu: *deadpan, silent, attacks again*

Also, one has to remember that Ichigo did defeat Zangetsu once already. He had to, in order to achieve bankai. And Zangetsu knows exactly what he's capable of: i.e. that it's not necessary to hold back against him. After all, he never has before. So: is Zangetsu really trying to kill his wielder, or just using the opportunity to smack some sense into him again?

Hollow!Ichigo: *takes over and Ceros Zangetsu into a pillar, which collapses on him; then turns on Murimasa*
Ichigo: *REVOLTS, breaking out of the Hollow shell, and keels over from exhaustion, gasping Zangetsu's name*
Next episode, in which Zangetsu never appears at all:
Ichigo: *comes to Shiro's defense, saying that the Hollow is part of his soul (even though it just ranted again about destroying him and taking over his body), and therefore he's defending it no matter what -- and also that he's "taking myself back", and that means getting Zangetsu back too, whatever it takes*

Finally. I wish Kubo-sensei did have space to write this arc himself -- it's exactly the sort of wake-up call Ichigo's been needing recently. This is the kind of responsibility for himself and his shinigami powers that he should be taking in the manga right now (Vaizard hollow-baiting arc after Aizen is defeated this time, plz?). And if this means there's still a loophole for original!Zangetsu to appear again in the manga, so much the better.

.....In other news:
BWAHAHAHAHA.

Last time I flew, I broke my never-buy-the-expensive-airport-paperbacks rule. You would too if your computer's battery had run out and you unexpectedly came across Mr. Darcy, Vampire.

Yes, you read that right.

Subtitled (at least in my head) In Which A Perfect Eighteenth-Century Couple Honeymoons Across Europe, Pursued By People With Pitchforks. It's more romantic than the original and far less gleefully gory than Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies, and I'm very inclined to donate it to a local library now that I've read it, because such literary phenomena must be shared.
