(no subject)
*Mary Russell is now following me on Twitter. *snickers* Speaking of which, Locked Rooms was interesting; it's only the second Russell book I've read, and I found it far better than The Beekeeper's Apprentice (which is as it should be). Russell makes a competent heroine, though (as I think we've talked about, wens) Holmes's constant presence and obligatory uber-awesome nature tends to detract from her individualism. I have a prejudice towards third-person and so enjoyed the Holmes POV sections best, but... well, any hope of taking the story seriously went out the window when he started collaborating with Dashiell Hammett. The nearest library unfortunately doesn't have any of the other books, but this will definitely be an ongoing investigation.
*What that library did have was a Patricia A. McKillip book I hadn't seen before -- Od Magic it's called, about a school of wizardry founded by a powerful, archetypal figure named Od. She hardly appears, though, and the story is populated by a colorful McKillip cast, each character seeking peace or power as turn their inclinations. Like most of her work, it's right up there on my reread list.
*Poking away at this one unfinished multichapter Doctor Who fic. It may even be finished within the month. Wow.
*Saw Star Trek again tonight (YAY TRIBBLE). Wrote two pages of incoherent notes that will be posted here when they become coherent.
..which will not be tonight, because LJ ate my last two attempts at this post anyway, including what I wanted to say to wens about Sunday, which was basically "yay" but with a lot more words. ^___^ *falls asleep*
