The actor-swap would be tolerable, if it weren't for the fact that half of them are there only because JJ likes them from past projects, and the other half for star power. And dude, I like Simon Pegg, but I don't think he stands an icecube's chance in Hell of playing Doohan's character.

I'm not even an engineer, and I can see about fifty million problems with it. White light? That much white light? Eyestrain after a full shift. Nevermind the row of yellow lights over stations SHINING RIGHT INTO THE EYELINE OF THOSE WORKING THERE! A standing station on the bridge, which is even less safe than no seatbelts. Some transparent doo-dad that blocks your turbolift, provided you can get past the standing station, making evacuation one wild fricken time.

The old design was actually really good. The lighting was appropriate. The layout was excellent. I dunno why anyone would wanna totally revamp it -- it coulda been updated, but then Abrams decided to go all Star Wars.

And Nemesis did suck. But the answer isn't to revamp icons who are still popular to this day as they already are. Maybe just hire some real writers and storytellers to create a new Trek series.

Hm, that I didn't know, but it's not unusual, I suppose... And lol, Pegg. I can see him playing an immature, angry Scott, but no, he won't be Doohan's Scotty. Paul McGillion might have been able to get close, but the original was irreplaceable.

*winces* Not good... not good. Maybe they'll see the light later on, if the concept works out. What do you bet there will be an evacuation just to give characters a chance to complain about the doo-dad?

Yeah -- I wanted to see further into the future. (I'd root for an all-Vulcan starship, but not after what they did to them in Enterprise.) Stopping Star Trek history after Janeway? Not cool. They should totally hire us. ;)

I'd totally buy an immature Scott, but still don't think Pegg can pull off even a close version. Doohan pretty much was Scotty, absent the accent and some varied background details. And while I don't write them quite that close, you've still gotta know Jimmy to really understand Scotty. Pegg's better than a lot of people; still not good enough.

I doubt JJ will do anything except tout his vision as being the best. He's made it clear a number of times that he's a Star Wars fan, and most of what he says about classic TOS comes across firmly as lip service.

I've seen a lot of talented fan authors write past TNG/DS9/VOY. Brilliantly good stories. But of course, they do it for the love and not the cash.

Makes all the difference.

Ooh, McGillion would have been fun. I would have watched that movie, I think, maybe. Sometime. (Simon Pegg just... strikes me as a nonentity of sorts.)

Yeah, McGillion!Scotty would have been awesome.~ Pegg is great in his sphere, but this... wasn't his sphere.
