I'm wondering what the long term affects of seeing war at such a young age are... I know there are studies. I'm sure being wary of violence is one of them, but I think another symptom is using violence as a *first* resort and not thinking through all of your actions and how they effect people is another. He might have *thought* about how it would effect Sasuke, and he was partially right in that... but I still don't really see why he couldn't have done it some other way.
I don't know anyone who wouldn't agree that what Itachi did, no matter what reason, was 'Tha hell kinda love is that?!' And if this was his only scheme, as you said, he failed miserably. He didn't trust anyone around him, and though Kisame was his partner, it said HE was one of the closest to Tobi. What does that say? Was Kisame spying on Itachi? Was his respectful manner a farce? Or was just the way he is naturally perfect for being Itachi's partner?
And knowing Madara's part in the plan, why would it be so far a stretch for him to know all of the reasoning behind Itachi's motives? It just... doesn't seem to fit that Itachi thought the whole thing would be a secret and that Madara would just skip along for revenge without wanting to know the reason he was being allowed the chance. Amaterasu as a last resort... well... who the hell OTHER than Madara could have survived it anyway?
As for the curse seal. Orochimaru had left Akatsuki after Itachi chopped off one of his arms for at least ten years by the time he had put the seal on Sasuke. And considering Itachi had been doing all of this *alone* for the most part, him asking for help from anyone would kind of defeated the purpose. Who would trust him? Naruto aside. Shounen!retard syndrome. And even if they did, he doesn't want to explain nor show that he was anything but an asshole... until the very end.
That could definitely be a valid interpretation. Childhood conditions are strongly impressed on the mind as "the way things are", and some people never learn to adjust their worldview as they grow up. I still want it established that Kishimoto knows that tactic is thoroughly messed up.
You know, Kisame's whole part in it all was intriguing. He apparently didn't know Tobi was Madera, but I can't decide whether he knew something was up with Tobi in general. The fic practically writes itself. I'm also finding it interesting that he knew Madera enough to recognize him by sight. Good point about Madera too; an adult and used to Uchiha power games, he might even have foreseen Itachi's entire plot. GAAH. *shoots him*
*nodnod* Okay; ergo the curse seal did not factor into Itachi's plan when he made it up, and was possibly something he didn't expect. But that just means that the whole "nearly kill Sasuke to extract Orochimaru" thing came later, when Itachi should have been older and wiser. *facepalm* ..Heh, it seems like one of Naruto's recurring themes is "you can't go it alone or you'll end up doing something stupid and letting your brother kill you". NarutoBWAHAHAHA. XD
It's all the more annoying because Itachi was the best villain in the series. Second best was Kabuto, and HE got retconned too. >(
We'll see what Kishimoto-sensei has in store. Two more days 'til the chapter potentially comes out \o/
And yeah... I can imagine, depending on how old Kisame is, he WOULD recognize the Mizukage because he was from the Mist. [Right? He knew Zabuza, at least being the 10 swordsmen peoples]. Assuming anyone behind that mask was Tobi, the Mizukage = Tobi = WTF WHY AREN'T YOU MORE SURPRISED?!
My question is why we've only seen one eye. If he had a transplant like Kakashi did, I would lawl out loud. Several times. *dies* that is a horrible, horrible recurring theme! XD
I don't know if Itachi was the *best* villian, but he was certainly the hottest, and the most... well. Totally unrepentant. Orochimaru wasn't at all either, but in their first and last battle Itachi >> Orochimaru.
In the Naruto world, evil doesn't pay. Cus then your character gets raped by the mangaka. I hope there's more to it, but eehhh. Not having much hopes. In story writing abilities, Kubo-sensei pwns Kishimoto-sensei. And Bleach has gotten so much more kick ass in recent chapters...
Ah, true! (Which begs the question of how an Uchiha wound up Mizukage... or did I miss something in the Backstory of Doom?)
Lawl. That one eye is the main reason why I thought he'd turn out to be Obito. It would have been such a great plot twist besides giving Kakashi a reason to still be in the series!
Totally unrepentant... indeed. One felt that he knew exactly what he'd done and where he was going with it -- it made him seem so much more powerful than the characters who were just following the leader or trying to take over whatever. But then his plan turned out to be THAT. *headdesk*
*siiigh* Ah, Bleach. I must slap myself awake and read a few volumes before it gets completely out of hand. XDDD
In re possibilities: ah well, there's probably fic.
D'awwww, thanks! *hides face in pillow* The only good thing about this whole debacle is that if we ever end up RPing together Gai and Itachi will be buddies. \o7 Speaking of which, what's with epilogue_rp these days?
Fic. Hmm. I haven't been reading much of that. So many other things to do!
Will they? Gai doesn't know about Itachi and I'll be damned if he'd tell him. XD I can see Gai's eyes bulging in disbelief~ Not sure. Have to ask Jen, Amy, Nick, and Manda about that one. I basically forgot about it even before I left SH... =D;;
Oh, come on, Gai is a TRAIND NINJA and there must be some combination of plot and circumstances that'd make it clear to him. XDD He'd be incredulous, sure, and it would take something big to make him believe it, but then he'd take it upon himself to clobber rehabilitate Itachi and teach him what real family feeling means.~ It was moving very slowly last time I looked at it; too bad, the idea was a good one.
Hahahaha, you wish~ It might come out eventually, cus Sasuke might blurt it out randomly, but I don't think it would travel so far. He dies to keep it a secret and then everyone knows? Ironic~ Yeah, moving slow, but I'm sure they could pick it up if we started in earnest and got more players that aren't just old SHers.

I think we ALL missed something from the Backstory of D00m at this point. =_=
Him being Obito would have made me wonder where Kishimoto could/would have taken it. So many possibilities.
*gives you pillow for desk* Do that too much, and your brain cells won't work anymore! D8!
Bleach is out of hand. XD Not nearly as long as Naruto at least... 100 chapters behind...
