Days like today are hard. Nothing bad has happened to me, but nothing good either.
Within about an hour, I heard mean comments made about a friend of mine at work. Not outright mean, but sly mean. I ended up taking both of the people who made the remarks to task and telling them that they're not angry at this man, they're just letting their own pissiness reflect on everyone else. Both people ended up feeling bad and apologizing to me. If they were my kids, I would have made them apologize to the person they slighted, but that's a little heavy-handed for a grownup lesson.
But it gave me a chance to think about this person and why I think of him as a friend, and made me happy to know that I know some really good people. People worth defending.
