For the record, boys and girls, LJMatch exists solely for that Friends-Compatibility test. That stupid fucking chart. That stupid fucking chart that's more potent than any molitov cocktail, it seems

oh, and ps: sorry about the belated-ness of that comment. i was bored and going through old stuff last night and didn't know that i hadn't said that before! though maybe it's a given?
well, the sentiment's appreciated, but until i have the ultimate superpower of healing both physical and psychological pains, of every shape and size, then i will not be completely happy with my efforts. i will, however, realize that this is impossible and attempt to be content with my little feable consolations. ;)
well, we can see which areas of the brain are firing in response to what emotion, but the main problem with that is that emotions are often physiologically the same. it's the psychological part that's different, and what we attribute the feelings to. like, which emotion we think we're feeling. which is why you can use that to manipulate people sometimes. :D oh, the joys of general psych.
Sounds like that can be attributed to an incomcplete understanding of the brain. I'd figure there must be Some difference in the brain when two emotions fire. If they're physiologically the same as other emotions, it would seem we're looking in the wrong places. (I'm really just brainstorming here, so please feel free to correct any flaw in my reasoning.) Physical differences have a physiological translation, so couldn't one assume that the answers might lie in integrating the two sets of data?
Also, more likely, answers will come when we have a better understanding of the physiological aspects of consciousness. Understanding why one thinks what one thinks. (One of the DNA guys is working on this these days... which one, hilary knows better than myself.)
true. i mean, it would make sense to believe that the things we experience so differently, (ie. fear and love) would show differently in brain scans and whatnot, but apparently they don't. i don't really know all the technical ins-and-outs of the thing, but i know that they are still working on understanding a lot of this stuff, so maybe new findings will come someday that challenges all that. and maybe we are looking in the wrong areas. but that's why you have the three main different schools of thought about emotions: one that you have to experience an emotion and then you label it, one that you have to consciously label an emotion and then you experience it, and the third that you do both simultaneously, and that neither is independent of the other. there are logical reasonings behind each of the first two manners, and the third, which i believe is more of a middle-grounds type reasoning. but since we can all identify examples of concious labeling of emotions before and after we feel them, scientists are kind of at a crossroads.

I got really into amateur consciousness studies for a while, and i'm swinging back into it now, though when i don't have any 1000 page books on the horizon i really look forward to diving into it much more intensely.
just general. :/ i loved it though, and thus added another major to my list. :) hopefully, if i can work out all the hours, i will be double majoring in english and psych, with a minor in dance. whew!
hah! yes. she can do all the math and i can pretend to be knowledgeable about things. :) hahahhahaa. okay i'm just sad that i haven't gotten to read as much as i'd like to lately. lame schoolwork. this summer, i'm acting as a roomtroll and i'm going to readreadread read. it will be awesome. and, i must concur with the platonic findings, i <3 hilary. i keep meaning to call, but i never know when is a good time. maybe right now, after i write an email to bridget! :)
