Work and more work

The rumors floating around work turned out to be true: we're going to a 24/48 schedule. That means one day on, two days off (instead of three). They're trying to get their act together with hiring more people but until then we have to work more (so now 40 hours of overtime automatically built into our 2-wk schedule). It was gonna be crappy news cause that meant more time on the transfer truck (the boring) and less time picking up 911 shifts (the more interesting), BUT I've finally gotten moved! My patient waiting and hard work has not gone unnoticed cause I'm the only EMT-Basic besides one other guy who's now on a 911 truck. They've even moved some EMT-Intermediates to the transfer truck which I'm sure they're not happy about. It's a big deal.

In related news, O'Daniel and I delivered our first baby at one of the jails in Texas City. Long story short, we had no idea our transfer was gonna pop her child out within minutes of our arrival to the room. As soon as we get there, all of the nurses/technicians in the room all waited for us to take over. My partner and I had never delivered a baby before, and the last one I saw birthed was 2 yrs ago. I guess the baby got tired of the indecision and just made the first move. It's kind of surreal to think I was the first person in the world to touch this baby girl. The whole ordeal was freaky (esp. when the mother's blood pressure started to quickly drop in transit), but it felt great to contribute more than just lifting patients in and out of the ambulance.

Saw Cars last week. Pixar does it again and better than all of their competition (but don't get me started), so go see it. Want to try and see Brick tomorrow after lunch with Robert if I can. Also, A Prairie Home Companion is out now, so I recommend that one, too.

I actually found some hot men of my own this time, so I figured I'd share. John Barrowman had a small part as the lead stormtrooper in The Producers but is also a prolific stage actor and singer. In my internet searching I noticed he appeared on Dancing On Ice, sort of the UK version of Dancing With The Stars, which led me also to Matt Evers.
