A Soon-To-Be Working Man!

So I never updated that I have been offered a job! Galveston EMS has a spot as an EMT-Basic for me. Yea! Hopefully I can do paperwork when my pee test gets back sometime this week. Gotta then wait for a background check before I can start working, so I figure I'll probably start on Christmas. That'd be my luck. Now I can get started on all the stuff I held off on, like going to a gym, volunteering at MD Anderson, and going out to clubs more often. (We'll see about that last one.)

I hung out with Crystal this weekend. I joined her for her work party on Friday. She works in a lab at MD Anderson, so I imagined about 20 people sipping cider out of beakers in an actual laboratory and not a huge buffet at Kim Son Banquet Hall with 40 tables of scientists. It felt like a wedding cause you hardly know anyone except for the poeple you came with, and the DJ's trying to entice dancers with old hits like "Boot Scootin Boogie" and "YMCA." I said I would probably need to be drunk to dance to that stuff again cause it reminded me of Jr. High dances at Aurora Country Club, but I felt like I should be a good date since Crystal wanted to cut it up a little bit. I re-learned the Electric Slide, and the music did change up a bit. Some Outkast and Kanye West was heard.

I also joined Crystal and two of her friends from high school for a b-day celebration. Before we went out to eat, they wanted to stop by the church for confession, which was new for me. I've probably been inside a Catholic church like 2 or 3 times in my life even though I've seen plenty on TV. There was a huge line for the confession booths even with 3 priests working. We stood there for at least a half hour. I got bored and just cleaned out my cell phone of names I didn't remember anymore. I felt a lil guilty to be so nonchalant about it inside a church, but I also felt a little rebellious inside a Catholic church because of all their ceremony and motions. The girls all dipped fingers into the holy water and did the cross sign across their chest, and I wondered if anyone saw me skip that. I thought about having to go to confession as a good way to hold yourself accountable, but it still seems so inconvenient to depend on a priest to converse with God. I don't criticize Catholics for their practices since they're on the same page in the big picture, but I'm just glad I don't have to remember all that stuff.

I tried to make it to see Capote on Friday cause I couldn't wait for my mom any longer. I got there late and ended up seeing Jesus Is Magic again with Sarah Silverman. Offensive humor, yes, but really funny, too. Saw Chicken Little, too. I read the critics didn't like it too much, and I am a bit of a snob when it comes to my animated movies. Pixar just hit too many out of the park for me to tolerate the lightweights like Shark Tale and Madagascar. When you market your film by displaying all your big star names, then that means you have little faith in your story. Pixar sells the story first. Wait...where did this soapbox come from? Anywho. I enjoyed Chicken Little cause it was funny. Not all of the good stuff was in the previews (unlike King Kong). I have to agree the overall flow of the plot was not great and I won't buy it, but it was entertaining.
