It seems that I've been remiss with episodes 03-05, but I'm sure it's all right. I'll get back to them later. Last night's episode was the big one. The plot itself is slowly, but surely moving forward. Some folks lived. Others died. Mostly, I just didn't care because as long as Fujimaru-kun logs in as Falcon, I'm happy. See... I'm easy to please.
Seriously, I want to discuss a matter of importance or something like that. Haruma's character. One of the things I began noticing about our adorable boy was just how competitive he is. For whatever reason, this came to the forefront of my mind when he played the role of Shiraishi Ryo in Binbo Danshi. Of course, I should have presumed it was the character, but I always had the impression more than a bit of Haruma fight-spirit/competitiveness/quasi-impatience came forth towards the end of the series. In interviews, too, his customary shyness seemed to be on display right along side a sheer need to break out. Hence, he often looked as though he was restraining himself. The variety show Tokyo Friend Park II (?) seemed to bring him all the way out in the open in certain places. I don't mean when he lost at Air Hockey. He was acting then. There were other moments.
Anyway, back to Bloody Monday 06 before the digression bug takes over completely... When I learned that Narimiya Hiroki would appear on BM it got me to thinking. Until he showed up, Haruma was clearly out-acting everyone else, who seemed to be more or less half-there. So I wondered, what would Haruma do when faced with actual competition. He 's worked with Hiroki in Akihabara@Deep, thus, he definitely knew what the guy was capable of.
Yappari, I got half of my answer in episode 05 when the two shared a great bit of screen time. Hiroki was rock-solid and Haruma was doing everything he could to keep up. He was learning on the ropes. I don't mean this in a negative way. I mean this in the most positive way possible. It was as if Haruma was subconsciously thinking, "You will NOT show me up in my own drama."
Ladies, he brought it this week. He truly brought IT. His performance was one of the best of his career. Our boy delivered masterfully. He came back with a vengeance. He took complete control of his surroundings and the other actors fell by the wayside. He made absolutely sure, without overdoing it, that we were not confused about who is important: Takagi Fujimaru. It's almost as if another 20 layers of child-Haruma had fallen by the wayside in the same way as the battered and bruised vestiges of Fujimaru's remaining childhood has.
Low and behold... Haruma has new expressions, too. I love all of his expressions, even those which are ridiculously distracting and would look common on a regular guy, but are too much for his beautiful face. His looks are changing again and there were shots that will pull some of you completely out of that drama. Sometimes, he is just too pretty, yet he's completely male...manly. How the heck does he do that? Opps... digression!
Folks, he brought it to ANOTHER /HIGHER LEVEL!!! He'd been more or less coasting (until Hiroki came) in episodes 3-5, with two of those being Haruma-lite, but he didn't hold back in episode 06. This is one of the zillions of reasons why I absolutely adore him.
Of course, I'm completely biased and I'm only judging him by my own standards, but I'm willfully unapologetic. This kid is the real deal! If it wasn't for him, I'd only be watching the news and the history/documentary channel.
I'm outta here! Ciao
