Oh, LJ, I Have Been Neglecting You

I said that I would update more often, but that trollop Facebook has been stealing away my precious hours with you. I don't mean to cheat, baby, but Facebook is just so shiny and glitzy, I can't resist.
You understand, right?

Things I Never Knew About My Parents:
1) My dad played softball with a guy who turned out to be a Russian spy
2) My dad biked the length of the Berlin Wall
3) One evening, as my dad walked from East to West Berlin, he met a guard at the Wall with a machine gun. There were many drunk people dancing on the top of the Wall. The guard told my dad that, if orders came, he would shoot at the people on the Wall. My dad agreed (never disagree with a guy with a machine gun). Later, when he got home, there was a note saying 'Gone to the Berlin Wall with the Goldstein's. Love, Julia'

Wow, they were pretty wild in Berlin (well, my mom was. My dad played football with the locals. They couldn't catch). I never knew about half these things. I guess it is what happens when old friends get together and reminisce over wine.

Life has been pretty good with me. Fiona has developed some sort of fixation on our cat, wanting to know where he is every hour of the day, but that's because we lost him once and he was sick. So whatever. Pippa has been...something. She spends most of her time in her room, or the basement.
I've been attempting to write...well, anything really. But it either turns into something Out-of-Character (if I am trying to fulfill that damn 30 stories I signed up for) or starts nicely and trails off into Craptown. On the interesting side, I have discovered that I can write great introspection, and that I have a good use of descriptive vocabulary. I kind of suck at dialogue, ignoring it oftentimes for more introspection, but oh well. If Psychology fails, maybe I can become a brochure writer! Lots of description there.

I watched Shrek the Third a while ago. It was fun. Not actually that good, but fun. I liked Eric Idle as Merlin, and Arthur struck me as the sort of person to sleep with his teachers in order to secure a decent grade. Very manipulative. Pity he'll never get Guinevere. :D There was also a Monty Python coconuts reference, although I seem to be the only person who got it.

Had my GoodBye Party on Monday. It was fun. We ate steak and potatoes and Parker was a surprise guest. It was nice because it turned out that his parents let him skip work to come to my party, and that Aldona's parents had temporarily suspended their grounding of her in order for her to attend. I felt special. It was lovely, and Michael gave me a mechanical pencil shaped like a (very cheerful) phallus.

I'm planning on seeing Anna tonight for dinner (possibly at the Japanese Mall!) and tomorrow it is Julia for lunch, and then it is Saturday. Wheels (supposed to be) up at 6am. Jesus. My parents are seeing if they can get a later flight for me, but as the office is paying, it is unclear.

I finished my job at the Library on Tuesday. Sadly, my predicted conversation never did come to pass, as they were very quiet and read a lot of Junie B Jones, Nancy Drew, and Jigsaw Jones. What was I reading at their age? 4th grade saw the long, arduous journey that was The Lord of the Rings, as well as any Harry Potters that came out. 5th grade saw Fire and Hemlock, Animal Farm, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and numerous adventure series. Also, the play version of Lord of the Flies (an accident, we were supposed to get the real version). And they call the kids here 'advanced'. Heh. ...Of course, I never understood Animal Farm until someone pointed out the symbolism, but I never touched Nancy Drew or Junie B Jones until 6th grade. When I was bored. And I know that I read 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' for the first time in 7th grade, and here it is Senior AP reading material. Huh.

I should stop rambling/bragging/what-have-you

Damn, why is Pippa playing S-Club 7, the A*Teens, and Hannah Montana on constant repeat? D:<
