Tony groaned as he blinked his eyes, trying to get his vision to come into focus. Years spent as a functioning alcoholic had caused Tony to develop a few routines when it came to waking up in states like this. First and foremost he had to figure out where he was. Definitely not at home, the cold metal floor was evidence of that. His lack of shoes was interesting though, but wasn't there a rash of missing shoes going on lately ( ... )

Tosh slowly crept into consciousness, first aware of a dull headache and then a sense of discomfort throughout her body. Shifting a little to try and relieve the feeling, she was immediately shocked fully awake but a pain that shot through her arm.

Wherever she was, it was neither her own room nor Tony's. The place was dim, lit only by the flicker of static on a television screen, and felt cold. Looking around, and carefully taking stock of her physical condition, Tosh realized that she was seated in a chair, but restrained somehow. The light from the screen glinted off something metallic in front of her, and as her eyes slowly adjusted she found that the chair was set in what seemed like a tiny room, the walls only a couple feet away.

At first, a jolt of panic threatened to overwhelm her at the memory of her capture in Brecon Beacons, but she took a deep breath and forced herself to calm. This wasn't Wales, and whatever had happened to her, she had friends who would come. All she needed ( ... )

Tony had initially listened to the speech with an air of casual indifference. Whoever this was must not have known him very well. A short walk across acid was nothing. It wasn't until it mentioned that Tosh was in danger that he felt his heart speed up and anger surge through him. Glancing up at the monitor he could see that she was also in a trap, one that was going to cause her a lot of pain to get out of.

As an Avenger, Stark was no stranger to pain and he knew that he could heal most anything. Tosh though... for as tough as she was he doubted that she had gone through any sort of training to prepare her for something like this. But she was smart, he knew if anyone besides himself could figure a way out of a trap it was her. And he could survive an acid bath... right?

The message relayed by the monitor was bad enough, but when it displayed what had to be a live feed of Tony -- standing in the middle of a room, on some kind of low platform, and surrounded by what had to be taps releasing the acid the message had mentioned -- Tosh cried out. She shifted in her chair, checking and testing her bonds, realizing that they were on chains of some kind, that must have been attached to the chair.

So she had to get out, and quickly, in order to release Tony. Fine, she could do that. There wasn't a lock around she couldn't manage, it was just a matter of figuring it out before Tony's room filled. Taking deep breaths to try and calm herself -- the dark, cold room, the enclosed space, had begun to work on her nerves -- Tosh felt around as far she could, exploring the shape and material of the chair and her bindings.

That was when she realized that she couldn't lift her hands above chest level, couldn't slide down far enough to get under where it seemed the blades stopped, couldn't get up high enough to climb ( ... )

"TOSH!"

Tony knew that it wouldn't really do any good, she couldn't actually hear him, but he felt helpless just sitting there as she moved forward, intent on cutting into her flesh as she worked through the trap. He promised himself to find whatever sick bastard was doing this to her and make them pay for putting her through his.

He was less concerned for himself, things like this were part of what he did. Perhaps not just like this but dealing with sick and twisted people. Regularly he put himself directly in their path. But this... this was just wrong in so many ways.

"You'll never get away with this," Tony said, looking up at the monitor. "Even if you kill me, I won't stay dead. And I'll find you. Because you're wrong. I don't have a problem with ego. In fact, I'm ridiculously fucking humble. I'm just that god damn good!"

Tony's entire body trembled in anger. He knew it was probably what the killer was looking for but he couldn't help it. But by God, Tony was going to make whoever this was pay.

The first attempt at moving through the trap sent Tosh jerking back with a soft cry. The blades were razor sharp. She had one way out, and it would hurt like hell, but there were no other options.

Glancing up toward the monitor, Tosh could see the anguish on Tony's face, but misinterpreted it as pain. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she wasted only another moment jerking at the chains binding her to the chair before steeling herself with a deep breath. Scrunching her eyes closed to protect them, she gritted her teeth and threw herself forward.

It was agony. Tosh could feel the knives slicing into skin and muscle, the grind as one glanced off bone, the warmth spreading quickly as blood began to run down her face. Her hair caught on one, pulling it with her as she moved and leaving a deep gash along the side of her head. What was probably less than a minute felt like hours, but finally the bindings around her arms and legs released, and Tosh fell forward to the floor.
