Fasting... D:

The Islamic month of Ramadhan. The holiest month in the calendar though I have to say it's one of the most torturous ones.

Okay. So for the whole month we can't eat/drink a single thing. Not even water.

It's not a month straight of course. We get to eat before the sun rises and then we get to eat again after the sun sets.

Gee, it's like we're hiding away from the sun or something, but actually, I think it isn't. Probably they didn't have a watch back then so they just measured things by celestial bodies.

We're also not allowed to have sex, be mean (D: D: D:), get angry, lie, or do shit like that. I don't think it's appropriate for me to swear, either...

But! The good side of it is that starting from now, I'm gonna pray and stuff and be more religious instead of the heathen I am right now (haha if they find out I mock some of the principles they might as well burn me at the stake)! You know, to find a purpose in living and such.

I've also discovered that however much some of the lines in the Qur'an (it's like the Bible) can be only directed to men and slightly chauvinistic, etc, it actually protects women. Of course, the fact that in someone's will a woman is meant to get half the amount a man get is a bit of a fluke since in those days, women didn't really do anything so I guess it's okay, but these days, there are business women (and anyway if we want to give the women more money all we have to do is transfer it before we drop dead).

Also, we're not allowed to eat bacon/ham/etc, animal corpses, blood that still runs, animals that have been killed in illegitimate ways (eg. strangled, beaten up), and not to drink beverages that can affect your consciousness.

But some animal corpses are allowed- fish, and for some unknown reason, grasshopper. WTF is so holy about grasshoppers? Also, some religious dudes argued that ants, moths and bees are allowed as well because their blood is different than ours (if we wish to eat them, of course. I heard in some part of Indonesia they eat moths).

Even though there are all these rules, they're actually for our own good if I think about it. I mean, it's been proved that pig meat isn't the healthiest thing around, we all know about eating corpses, the blood thing... I don't know, in case it becomes a vector for a disease-cause? And the animals killed in wrong ways... well, it's just unpleasant, okay?

With the whole not-drinking-alcohol thing, we all know why that's unallowed but I still think we're allowed to drink it as long as we don't get smashed.

There's the end of my ramble... Ah. I feel so much better that I've eaten now. =)

islam, ramble
