I have been working like a maniac the last couple weeks on getting my applications together for graduate school. I have about a month until apps for Cal-Arts and UCLA are due. I've been updating my resume, scanning photos, creating labels and captions, cleaning out my portfolio, etc. I've been getting some great advice from a friend of my sister's who just graduated from the Costume Design MFA at UVA and now has a great job in our field.
What I'm starting on right now is my letter of intent/statement of purpose; it's supposed to demonstrate and interest in performance-based design (as in, I wouldn't rather just be doing fine arts or fashion design), and talk about my past experience in relation to my goals.
I've realized it's very difficult to analyze your own work. Your favorite and your best are not always the same thing.
I'd love for my friends that read this who are familiar with my work as a designer to give me some perspective.
What do you think has been my best design project so far?
What about it worked for you?
What are my greatest strengths as an artist/designer? As a technician/craftsperson?
If we've collaborated on a project, how would you describe the process of working with me?
How would you describe my style?
What do you think I need to improve?
Thanks a lot to anyone who has the time to respond on this. It will be a huge help with my preparations!
