[Geek, Dear Lazyweb] Ubuntu Text Editor

So, I find myself in need of a decent text editor on the Ubuntu system I'm running. I've been using a combination of vim and gedit depending on context, but what I really need is a decent tabbed editor with a built-in system browser, something a little like Notepad++ or Crimson Editor on Windows ( Read more... )

I know this is probably not what you're after, but I use screen and vim.

I accidentally launched text-Emacs a few weeks ago, and had to kill the process because I couldn't work out which meta-bucky-hickey keys it wanted so it would quit without saving.

Even if you hate emacs and will never use it for editing, that's the one command you should remember :)

To be fair, I had to do the same thing with vi the first few times I opened it on the console, Who would think to type ":q" to exit?
