Life's a piece of shit,
When you look at it.
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true,
You'll see it's all a show,
Keep 'em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you!
By probably Eric Idle, from the movie The Life of Brian by the immortal Monty Python.
It is really. Shit I mean.
And a show.
And not even a very good one at that.
Interesting tidbit:
I don't know my bible too well but I do know there's a passage where god's missionary proves heathen priests that his god is the only right one by I think setting something on fire? Or was it by creating rain? In any case I think the other priests were priests of Baal...
In any case, I stumbled upon a nearly identical passage in a Chinese legend of The Monkey. Here the heroe of the story, The Monkey (converted to buddhism) competes in magic with three taoist immortals. The purpose is to make rain, and naturally the hero of the story wins the bout. But the interesting thing was the similarity of this Chinese legend to the one in the Bible. But then again, this particular motif isn't exactly difficoult to come up with.
The book I read this in was Monkey by Wu Ch'Êng-Ên.
