Author’s Note: This is the art for electriclita's spn_j2_bigbang Only Flying for a While. The fic is in turn heart-warming and fun and heart-breaking, it really showcases the full spectrum of human emotion. Lita was such a joy to work with, wrote a story that would inspire any artist (I actually wanted to do more, but alas, July was crazy) and I only hope I did right by it. Lita--I loved your enthusiasm, both online and in person, and appreciate that you were so warm and encouraging and willing to follow me on all the crazy limbs I went on. <3
Summary: AU: Jared and Jensen have been inseparable since childhood, growing from rascally kids to awkward teenagers to twenty-somethings figuring out their places in the world together. As Jensen's catapulted into the world of fame and fortune after the lucky break of a lifetime, he falls to the bottom of the bottle to cope. When his lifelong relationship with Jared explodes under the pressure, both of them are left picking up pieces of two lives that were never really meant to be separate.

I was really super proud of this and then I remembered that Jared is supposed to have a lip ring and then I tried to give him one and it wouldn’t show up because the image is too big, so just take my word for it that Jared has a little lip piercing and be impressed with my 1000% accurate-to-the-story art. Wow, me. Such impressive.

Jared is a tattoo artist in the story, so I got the idea to try to do the title lettering in a tattoo style. I’m actually really happy with how it turned out (I know it’s a little hard to read the author/artist credits, alas), but HOLY CRAP, THIS TOOK ME 84 YEARS.

electriclita put these mixes together, I only did the art. They’re great-I’ve listened to them basically non-stop while working on art the last month-and really tie into the story since they inspire the songs Jensen writes (and you’ll see many of the songs referenced). Definitely enhanced the story experience, IMO!

For the banner, I have to thank the insanely talented @amyshaped for allowing me to use her ridiculously beautiful rockstar!Jensen photo. She even got me the raw image and cleaned it up and stuff and I so appreciate her taking the time to do that. ♥
For the Jared manip, I used a still from the awful Christmas Cottage movie found on this Jared fansite and this wallpaper, which electriclita provided as an example of the kind of art her Jared would do. This was a collaboration in every sense of the word, by which I mean I bounced a lot of ideas off Lita and spent the last 24 hours bombarding the poor dear with every question that popped into my head (she's probably excited to be rid of me, TBH).
My hand-drawn banner lettering was put together combining tattoo examples from various websites meant to inspire people’s tattoo designs, so hopefully they won’t mind me also running with them! Those tattoos are here (guitar and general banner styling), here (paintbrushes), and here (tattoo gun). I also used references for common tattoo lettering, coloring, and good ways to curl those banners.
Most everything else was put together thought google searches. I did draw on clipart for the divider designs when I was struggling to draw the objects I wanted to do off the top of my head.
