Real Person Fic - CW: In the Small of My Heart Masterpost

Title: In the Small of My Heart
Fandom: Real Person Fic: CW
Characters/Pairings: Jared/Jensen
Rating: PG-13 for implied character death and language. [Spoiler (click to open)]This is probably not the happy-ending feel-good story you're looking for. If you want an open ending wherein you can decide what happens for yourself, just don't read the epilogue.
Word Count: 16,055
Author’s Note: This was written for the fifth and (hold me!) last ever round of one of my very favorite fic challenges, j2_everafter. I claimed the prompt The Secret World of Arrietty. A round of thanks go out first and foremost to my absolutely sadistic artist, ordinaryink, for always being cracky and sharing feelings with me, and for having just as much fun being trolly about the awful things we do as I did. j2_everafter is the first challenge we ever worked on together and, I believe, a huge part of what made us end up so close. ordinaryink now being one of my very best friends in the world both on the internets and in the real, I already owe the challenge quite a lot just for that. Next to the beautiful mods of this most splendid challenge, untitleddemo and deirdre_c, not only for running a great show for five excellent years but also for always being up for sharing feeeeeelings about this challenge with me (you know who you are). Lastly but not leastly, to my beta ratherastory, because really anyone who betas anything for me should be canonized. Title is from a song by Madison Violet that I've never heard but Tracey has. More notes at the end.

Summary: AU: Jared is a borrower. At just under four and a half inches, it's his job to venture out into the world of bigger men in order to find and borrow (not steal) the items he needs to support his family. His whole life, Jared has lived by one rule: a borrower can never be seen. But then Jensen moves into the big house, catches Jared red-handed in the middle of a borrowing, and lets him go instead of trapping him. Jensen isn't greedy or dangerous like the giants Jared has always been warned about; he's sad and sick and, more than anything, he's lonely.
