Have not abandoned this blog, despite the lack of new entries. I can't really summon the energy to blog entries anymore, as work got busier and Greg, more active and naugthier then before.
This is the reality of life I supposed. Greg is now in Nursery class instead of pre-nursery and is starting to speak in proper sentences. I have little time now for myself now as a ftwm who had to rush home daily to cook for my boy.
Having grown up on home cooked food - I was determined that Greg gets the same home cooked goodness me and hb grew up on. Several crash courses from Mum and some improvisions from self - I can quickly put together a home cooked meal for 1, 2 or 3 (depending how many of us chose to dine in). This is where my previous training in cooking for myself came into handy I guess - I'm no longer resistant to the idea of cooking.
Some well-meaning mummies have offered other alternatives such as ting-kat, or even slow cooker. I don't really believe in ting-kat food. To me that is as good as buying outside food. And usually ting-kat delivers at odd hours - like a few hours before we reach home - the food would have been cold.
As for slow cooker, I seldom use it beyond 3-4 hours. Even using it, I watched the timing of the ingredients being cooked - certain ingredients have to be added at the right time. To me there is no point in cooking food so long- all the nutrients that went into the pot would have been lost if the food is overcooked (
http://www.livestrong.com/article/487362-nutritional-effects-of-overcooking/) - this is especially the case for food like fish and vegetables, which gets cooked in a matter of minutes.
Call me kiasu mummy if you must - but I have never thought of myself as being kiasu as what I am doing is the norm back in the days of my mum and mil. If they can do it, there is no reason why I cannot.
