In the beginning it was just Seth and Captain Oats. His trusty stead. Ok, technically it was Seth, Captain Oats, Sandy and Kirsten. And he always had his grandpa and Aunt Hailey, but his mom had her Newpsies and Jimmy and his dad was always too busy with work. They loved him, yes, but they had their own life and by the time he was sixteen they didn’t have a huge amount of time for him.
In the beginning there was fear. Seth was afraid of school and people and life. Really, there was no getting round it. Luke had made his life hell since elementary school. Summer had never noticed him. Marissa had blatantly ignored him his whole life, despite the fact that his parents were best friends.
In the beginning Seth wouldn’t say that he understood what loneliness was. It upset him when he saw the people at school together. When all he had was his comic books and a plastic horse. So, he guessed he sort of got it, but he wouldn’t say he understood it at all. He knew he had no friends back then, in the back of his mind. Only himself to play with, so to speak. He wasn’t a California person. He definitely wasn’t a Newport Beach person. He didn’t even think he was much of a people person.
The beginning was bleak.
