Previous Chapters She's talking to him for the first time in over two weeks. Not just talking to him, but running up to him and wrapping her arms around his neck and squealing in his ear. Which he's not too happy about because his eardrums feel like they're about to shatter, but at least its contact.
He knows why she's jumping up and down on him. It'd be the first happy news she's had in a while. The cast list for The Wizard of Oz has been posted and she got Dorothy. Not that anyone else was expecting otherwise. And then there was the little point of him getting the part of the Scarecrow. He was never expecting that in a million years. The new kid and not that great, but there you have it. He gets to stuff himself full of straw and dance around like a maniac. It should be fun.
From what he's heard from Jared Jason is back in town permanently. Mike said, seriously for once, that his father just suddenly dropped dead. Heart attack. It's sad, but Jensen can't help but want Jason to leave.
He's been moping. He knows it's incredibly lame; he barely even knows the girl, but like his Momma says. Sometimes you just know. His Momma has been telling them their whole life that she knew she was going to spend the rest of her life with their father as soon as she laid eyes on him. And now Jensen knows what she's been talking about all those years.
So he must admit he's pretty excited when her arms are around his neck and he's finally breathing in her smell of sunshine and vanilla sugar again. He still can't get over how right it felt waking up beside her after Mike's party, and how (almost)please his mother had looked when they'd crept downstairs. She'd never liked his last girlfriend Joanna, but she seems to like Kristen. She likes Kris' mother too, so he reckons that's probably some of the reason. Good breeding. She's very Texas in that mentality.
He's standing by the notice-board in the main corridor when she attacks him, and he can hear Mike's cackle over her breath in his ear. There's a fairly major background buzz as the classes change around them, but he swears he can hear her whisper, "I wish he was you," in his ear just before she lets go and slips through the crowd of people.
Two Months Later
Jensen's standing with about six girls around him. He'd pretty much happy with this scenario if they weren't all ogling him to make sure his costume was perfect. With three weeks till curtain-up everyone's completely stressed. Every time he sees Kris (which is quite often considering they're in almost every scene together) she's almost tearing her hair out. They've gotten to the point where they're all spending every waking hour with each other. Whenever he sees Jared the guy complains about how Jen sees more of Sandy than he does. It's unfortunate that it's true - Sandy's playing the Wicked Witch of the West so she's in quite a few scenes.
To be honest he's almost dressed in the same clothing he wears often. Ripped jeans, a plaid shirt. The braces he doesn't often do, but he kind of likes them. The problem is, they can't get the straw to stay in. Which he kind of thought was the whole point, but apparently he can't lose too much. Eric's determined he looks fat and stuffed, unevenly. He supposes he's not the biggest guy in the world, but really, it's getting beyond ridiculous.
Kristen is the cutest thing he's ever seen. She's been wandering around in a blue plaid dress and her hair in tails for the last week and every time Jensen sees her, he has to admit, it makes him hard. He never thought he'd have a little-girl fetish or whatever you want to call it, but he's really not sure how three hours on a stage with her is going to be. He should be very grateful for all the stuffing, he supposes.
He's also met Jason a grand total of six times. All with other people around them, and he seems like a very nice guy. Troubled, which goes without saying, he thinks, but a fairly nice guy. Jensen just can't help but think about what Kristen whispered in his ear the day casting went up. She's not mentioned it since, and he never would, but it's hanging in the air around them, almost like the elephant no one is willing to talk about. No one wants to talk about. He certainly thinks about it all the time, talks to his mother about it all the time. He doesn't get why she'd just say that and then leave it, nothing more done. His Mamma thinks she's in love with Jensen, but is too nice a person to give up Jason because of what he's going through. Jensen thinks she's just saying that to make him feel a little better about things.
He's really thrown himself into the musical though. To get his mind off the fact that the girl of his dreams is seemingly happy with another guy. Because that's the thing. When she is with him she is like any other high school girl in love with a boy.
That's what hurts the most.
