Summary: When Jensen gets shipped off to a catholic high school he meets the girl of his dreams. But life isn't all sunshine and roses.
Author's Notes: This is to make up for the last series in which they were broken. This will end up schmoopy and fluffy. But not straight away! Introduction chapter. And yes, this idea was loosely based on
anella's.
Jensen can't believe his father has done this to him. First, he moves them a thousand miles away and then he sticks him into a Catholic high school! He feels like he's stuck in someone else's life. And not in a good one, either. He's dressed in maroon for crying out loud and a tie, stuck in Michigan and sticking out like a sore thumb because he has a Texan accent. He wishes like hell he was anywhere but here. The school does have an incredibly good football team which he's happy about because he's found out tryouts are tomorrow and he knows he'll kick ass. He's also seen a couple of good looking blondes float past in teensy little skirts. That he's also happy about.
He's sitting slouched on a wooden pew in front of the office waiting for some kid. Michael something-or-other. The Dean did tell him but he's buggered if he can even remember his own name at this point in time. He thinks the east coast has ruined his brain. It's probably the cold. Jensen doesn't do well with cold.
He's thinking about how much he misses Steve and Chris and how if he was at school back home he'd probably be sitting in music playing the guitar and harmonizing with Steve when a bald guy about his height comes around the corner with another dude who has to be the tallest mother he's ever seen. The guy has phenomenal shoulders and would have to be the biggest guy Jen's ever seen. Which is saying something because hell, he plays football! There's a smaller guy trailing behind him who has shaggy black hair and is the kind of guy Jensen assumes is always quietly in the shadows when he's around the other two.
The bald guy, who Jensen is assuming is Michael, practically runs up to him, sticking his hand in Jensen's face and grinning broadly, "Hey there. Mike Rosenbaum. This here is Jared and that's Tom. We're supposed to, you know, show you 'round and shit."
Jensen nods and stands up, shaking the guy's hand, "Jensen. Real nice to meet you man."
Jared reels back slightly as if he's been hit, "Dude, you're from Texas!"
Jensen flicks the guy a look, "That noticeable huh?"
Jared nods and licks his lips, "Well, yeah. I mean, no, not totally. 'M from San Antonio."
Jensen nods, "Dallas."
"Aw man," Mike claps him on the back, "You and Jare'll be fast friends in no time! Welcome to Detroit, buddy!"
And just like that he has friends and he's thinking this might be a lot less of a disaster than he first thought it would be.
--------
He discovers that Mike and Tom have been friends since kindergarten, and they're the welcome wagon for every new student that walks in the door. Tom's father is one of the highest donating parishioners, and that means Tom gets special treatment, and Mike gets the backwash from that. He also discovers that, even though Jared's been in Michigan since he was eleven he's still the typical Texan. Even has most of his accent and everything.
They've been given first period off and Jensen gets shown the library, the cafeteria, the gym, the football field and anything else Mike and Tom can think of. They end up settled on the bleachers at the far end of the football field, with Mike scrutinizing Jensen's timetable, "You have English with Tommy-boy, you get to blow shit up with me in Chem,"
Jared interrupts him, "He means that literally too. He almost blew up the classroom last year,"
"Nothing with Jare," Mike continues, "But that doesn't matter, cos you two can hang out on the football field. And dude, you're taking drama? What the hell for?"
Jensen shrugs, "My father's an actor. Guess it kinda runs in the blood. 'Sides, all the good lookin' girls are in the drama classes."
Tom cocks an eyebrow, "That really true?"
Jensen nods, "Yeah, and they're all a ton of fun too. Course you sometimes get the nut-jobs, but generally you can see them comin' a mile off."
Tom nods seriously as if this makes a load of sense just as the buzzer for second period sounds. The guys all get up and dust themselves off; Mike adjusting his tie as if it were a matter of life and death and accidentally knocking Jensen's glasses into the dust in the process.
Jared grins at him and leans down to pick them up and then waves goodbye as he spots his P.E. class coming out of the side of the building.
Tom and Mike indicate that they're going in the complete opposite direction and as suddenly as it started, he's alone again.
--------
He walks into an auditorium full of noise and light. His last drama class took place in an old abandoned classroom that no one else wanted to use, so this is a big change for him. He wasn't wrong about the girls though. There's a couple of blondes that look mighty fine and, even though he does prefer the blondes, there's also a great looking brunette standing by the stage, chatting to pretty little elf.
That's almost literally what she is. She's more his type than the brunette girl standing beside her. She has long blonde hair that curls slightly at the ends and is the tiniest thing he's ever seen. He can just imagine her foot fitting into the palm of his hand, which is kind of a weird thought to have.
It's no sooner passed through his head than it escapes again, leaving him slightly reeling. An older man walks into the room, claps his hands twice, and everyone jumps to attention. Jensen runs down the steps, past all the chairs, down to the floor below the stage where everyone is gathering. He slips into the small crowd of people just in time to hear the teacher announce role call.
"Now," he starts, "I know everyone here, from previous years, and I just want to say that I can see everyone is here." He does a sweep of the small group, doing a double take as he gets to Jensen, "Except you. You I do not know," he looks down at his list, "You would have to be Mr Ackles, I assume."
Jensen turns a little red and nods.
"Good," the teacher practically yells, "I am Mr Kripke. You may call me Mr Kripke for the first week, and then you may call me Eric like every other student in this room."
Jensen nods and grins.
Kripke moves on, pulling himself onto the small stage and towering above everyone. He's a short, balding man who is rather tubby, but Jensen likes him on sight.
"This year," he starts, "Like every other year, we have so few students that we've put you all together. Seniors, Juniors, Freshman, Sophomore. You all get to know each other a little better. This year's production is The Wizard of Oz. You all should know that; I announced it at the beginning of summer. Everyone will have a part, and auditions will start in our double lesson first thing tomorrow morning. I suggest none of you are late. For today we will be watching a video. Please take a seat somewhere, anywhere. Watch it, don't watch it, I don't care."
He jumps off the stage and gestures to the little blonde elf girl, "Kristen, may I speak to you a moment?"
She follows the teacher out of the room, and Jensen follows them both with his eyes before settling himself down on a plastic chair facing a screen that has descended from the ceiling.
As the movie starts the elf girl comes and sits next to him, and, smiling she holds out her hand, "Hi! I'm Kristen Bell. Eric asked me to help get you settled. Drama can be a really hard thing to come into when the people have been working together for as long as we have."
He shoots her a quick smile, Texas hospitality practically oozing from his eyes, "Well, sure. I guess that'd be mighty nice."
She laughs, a pretty tinkling sound that is music to his ears, "No use asking where you're from, is there?"
"Aw shucks," he can actually feel a blush coming on, "I'm that noticeable, huh?"
She giggles again and nods. And right there his heart is in his throat and he's gone.
