Chapter Five - What You Want

And you could come to stay
Yes you could come right home
Don't see why I have to
Live this life all alone.

December 29, 2006

If Charlie could have, she would be pacing the aisles. As it was she wasn't a good flyer, and flying hundreds of mile over ocean made her nervous. It was either the flying or the fact that Jensen would be waiting on the other side, hers for a fleeting two weeks.

The Monday after he'd left Adelaide she'd come home from lunch with her best friend to find a courier bag sitting on the kitchen bench. It contained an open-ended plane ticket and a simple note in Jensen's scrawl:

C,

I know you thought I didn't mean it, but I would be honored if you'd spend New Years with me. You can go home whenever you please.

See you on the 29th.

Jen

As the plane descended onto the tarmac, grey sky out the window, Charlie felt her stomach lurch. She knew that she wouldn't be seeing Jen for hours yet; he'd explained to her that he'd be flying in from his parents place later and than Jared would be picking her up and looking after her, but she was still kinda nervous. Jared was Jensen's best friend, even if Jen thought that had been fucked up by them sleeping together.

She smacked her head on the top of the seat in front of her getting her bag out, narrowly missed being squashed by someone's suitcase when she'd opened the overhead locker and stood on about three peoples feet. This trip was not starting off well.

As she walked through the customs area after declaring her bag, she scanned the crowd for the familiar, yet unknown face. Jared's head stood out miles over everyone else's, and he was holding a sign that bore her name. She grinned to herself and made her way over to where he stood.

Grinning up at him she said, "Hey."

Jared looked down at the tiny brunette in front of him. She was pretty, big expressive brown eyes and short pixie hair, "Hey there gorgeous. What can I do for you? You want an autograph?"

She laughed, "Maybe later JT. A ride home would be nice now though." She could see confusion flitter over his face so she held out a hand, the one not currently holding her suitcase up, "Charlie Montgomery," she told him, "My name is on your sign."

His eyes widened so much she thought they'd fall right out of his head, and she had to laugh again, "You're Charlie? But I thought you were a guy!"

"You assumed I was a guy," she corrected him, "Its a common mistake. Now, can we go home? I'm about to fall over from exhaustion."

He nodded and reached for her suitcase shock still written all over his face, "I can't believe Jen would do that. Just not even tell me at all."

She laughed, "He has a pretty odd sense of humor. It's one of the great things about him."

"How'd you meet him anyway?" Jared asked, as he lead her out to his car.

"I interviewed him on the radio," she grinned as Jared unlocked the doors and she slipped in, leaving him to throw her suitcase into the back, "And we hit it off immediately."

"Huh," Jared said as he slid into the drivers seat beside her, "And he just invited you to stay with him?" he asked, as he started the car.

"What can I say? He wanted to spend more time with me. I'm not going to turn down a free trip to LA."

He laughed as he turned out of the car park and onto the freeway, "I'm supposed to be hanging out with some friends this afternoon; plans that were made before Jen asked me to pick you up. D'you mind?"

She shook her head and he told her they were going to be playing football in the park.

After a quick trip back to Jared's to drop off her suitcase and pick up two drooling dogs, they made their way to a park a few minutes from his house. He reassured her than none of his friends would bite, they were all Jensen's friends too.

She jumped out of the car and immediately spotted Mike Rosenbaum throwing a ball to Tom Welling, "Mikey!" she squealed, running over to him and almost jumping into his arms.

Mike looked taken aback for a moment, before breaking into a big grin, "Charlie! Well fuck me! Charlie-bear!" he lifted her up into a huge hug, "What are you doing in Lala-land?"

"I'm visiting Jensen."

"Ackles?" his eyes widened, "Why the fuck would you be visiting Ackles?"

She just grinned at him as Jared wandered over, his dogs bounding around him in glee, "How do you know Mikey?"

"She interviewed me a bunch of times when I've been in Australia," Mike told Jared, grinning, "She knows Tommy-boy too."

Charlie hugged Tom hello as he came over, and he kissed her lightly on the cheek, "What's this I hear about you and Jenny?"

Charlie grew red, her grin stretching over her face, "We just kinda got on really well. So now I'm here to hang out."

Mike raised at eyebrow, "Hang out, huh? In his bed?"

Charlie's cheeks heated up, and she wanted to hide her head in embarrassment, "It's completely not like that!"

"It completely is," he grinned at her, and flicked the ball away to Tom, "Now, we gonna play some foosball or what?"

The boys spread themselves out over the grass, organized into prearranged teams, and Charlie settled herself down on the grass, Sadie laying panting beside her. The sun was warm on her back and she felt herself drifting off.

Charlie woke on Jared's couch, Sadie lying with her head on her feet, and Harley beside her on the floor.

She sat up slowly, listening to the quiet rumble of two male voices in the next room. She must have been exhausted for her to not remember getting home, she thought to herself.

Getting up off the couch and stepping over Harley, who lifted his head for a moment before deciding getting up was too much effort for him and laying back down again, she made her way into the kitchen.

Jensen was sitting with his back to her with a bottle of beer in his hand, and Charlie's breath caught in the back of her throat as she took in his profile. Jared looked up as she wandered in, and grinned at her.

Jensen turned around. As he saw her a slow grin started on his face, lighting all the way to his eyes, and he stood up, "You made it," he said before taking her into his arms.

"Wouldn't be anywhere else," she whispered into his shirt.
