This sale is only through Wednesday night! Call them or place order onlineineversawaDecember 1 2004, 08:54:23 UTC
rightstuf has the best prices.
the one above is on sale this week, normal price is $59.98 but this one's at $35.99.
you won't find better customer service or nicer people than at rightstuf. and shawne's weekly prices, especially when he gets in a good mood, are very very hard for anime fans to pass up!
if you can only get one, get slayers. the regular prices are insane; take advantage of the sales. i just happen to enjoy the other one but like any cartoon no anime is perfect. i think slayers would be a fantastic introduction to anime. by the way, megumi hayashibara is in sorcerer hunters, too. she's very sought-after.
SALE ENDS Thurs. a.m. at 10 a.m. sharp BUT that's really pushing it if you really want a series. it is MUCH better to place your order WEDNESDAY night or as soon as they first come out. the "weekly special" sales last from thursday to wednesday night (well, technically thurs. at 10 a.m). it lasts all week long. i am sorry I am getting back to you so late! rightstuf has sales that start every thursday! they are called black thursdays because every thursday shawne (the owner) puts different things on sale. especially good are the "weekly specials" which are what these are under.
go directly to the links above, and or go to www.rightstuf.com click on "online store" and then click on "weekly specials." but don't miss those two if you can help it. If you can only get one go with slayers! i just have to say that i really enjoy sorcerer hunters also, mainly due to carrot (one of the characters).
if you like the first slayers you can get "next" and then "try." but make sure you like it first. of course, then you'll have to wait for "next" and "try" to go back on weekly special prices.
if i knew you were a slayers nut i would say also get slayers next (notice regular price is $129.99 on sale for $34.99)

Wow! Thank you so much for all this info. I'm going to have to wait until the new year though as I'm going to be more tapped out than usual with Christmas and all. But I'm saving all this for future use. Thank you so much...I really appreciate the time you took to type all this out for me. ♥
Re: This sale is only through Wednesday night! Call them or place order onlineineversawaDecember 2 2004, 23:03:06 UTC
no prob! i haven't checked this new week's specials yet (today is called Black Thursday, oooo) but you should know:
1. the slayers sets have NEVER been on sale all at once. this is a first.
2. the other set i have only seen on sale one other time and that is the time i bought it 2 yrs ago.
3. slayers i can't remember when it was last on sale. maybe once? but not the original, it was next or try.
4. forgetting my memory for a second, what i'm trying to say is, there is no way of knowing when these will be on sale again. you should never buy their stuff at regular prices because all anime is extremely overpriced. it's worth the sale prices but not regular prices.
5. take a look at this site, which also can have some good sales, and check their current prices on these series (but they do not have the original in stock plus you would have to make sure it is the 2nd remaster; i can guarantee rightstuf's is). those are a lot to pay for things you don't know whether you would even enjoy or not. http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/ as much as i love slayers, i would never pay even DDD's $78 for try or next, which for anime fans is a bargain but for me is a totally ridiculous amount of $ and i don't have the $ to throw away like that. $35 is still high for a hobby but i can resell it higher so for $35 i will do it. and for you, especially if you don't know the series, i wouldn't recommend it. some people love something and others don't, just like movies. i am doing my best to recommend a series that is loved by many but there are always dissenters. i think you'd enjoy it.

part two of three, continued ... (sorry, thought it could be done in two)
6. if you want to get them through rightstuf on sale, the only way to do that is via weekly special. that means checking every week to see if the series you want is on sale. most anime isn't mainstream and can't be found in stores, so if you actually have a store in your area that sells sorcerer hunters and slayers REMASTERED, i will faint, but probably not as much as you when you see their "real" prices! the few anime retailers cater primarily (excuse me, no offense if anyone here is in that category) to kids living in their parents' basement with plenty of disposable income. anime is not considered mainstream, but rather a niche market, so unless you know where to buy it, you are paying dearly for something. ideally you should pay low and if you don't like it be able to sell it on ebay and still be able to make $ and underprice the bootleggers. there is tons of bootleg anime around, but that is for another topic. it is treacherous. not all of it is bad, but i'll try to address that at some point because you are risking a lot. for example, when i didn't know better i thought i would try a nice slayers set on ebay that included the original, next and try. well the original was ripped not from the R1s but from a mix of the original R1 not the remaster and other (god knows what) analog sources, so the audio sucked, the video would freeze, and a couple of discs wouldn't play in my DVD player at all ... etc. now you've just bought a bootleg and you can't get your $ back. plus resell value on bootlegs is ZERO. there is a lot more to say about bootlegs, but i won't try to cover it here. at least on rightstuf you buy a legitmate, REMASTERED (fixed the bugs) slayers set for $35 and if a disc doesn't play or you want to exchange the whole set or whatever you can. google for "anime bugs" and look on a certain site that shows each set and what the bugs are for that series. for example one series won't even play on ANY JVC player, and that is a legitimate set. this is because the anime companies who press the discs, most of them don't care about fixing the issues, because it is a niche market, so they don't care if it doesn't play on your player. think you're gonna get your $ back? no. now a retail company like rightstuf will help you within 30 days, but most of the retail companies don't care and won't. try to get a huge anime DVD manufacturer like ADV to help you with a disc and see how far you get: they don't care. bottom line is, before you buy any anime, and i suggest legitimate whenever possible, buy low and sell high, and know EXACTLY what you are getting ahead of time.
7. good luck with all your christmas shopping! i hope eventually you can try at least one of them, but anime isn't for everyone. i just happen to enjoy it. :-)
slayers is about a group that follows bad guys around and they each have various talents to subdue the bad guys. $35 plus shipping for 26 eps at 25 mins each roughly. if you buy the eps individually they range from around $11 to $19 per episode times 26.
Re: This sale is only through Wednesday night! Call them or place order onlineineversawaDecember 2 2004, 23:05:58 UTC
part three of three ...
here is an "anime test drive" for slayers from DDD (deepdiscountdvd) for it looks like two eps (it is 50 mins) for $5.99 w/ free shipping. you could watch two eps and get an idea of the series. however a lot of the more spectacular characters will not have been introduced ... like xellos. don't even try to watch xellos in english; the english actor who plays him is a wimp. only watch xellos in japanese subs, as he was meant to be watched, and his true personality emerges.
consider purchasing that test drive, but don't buy the set from them because (a) you will notice they don't have it right now; and (b) they won't be able to match rightstuf's weekly sale price when/if it comes up again. make sure you don't go for a bootleg on this set as the R1 (region 1) rip was from the first series, not the second remaster, which is the only correct slayers one. various dvds have problems and this one was known to so you need to be careful from whom you buy this set.
btw if you get the test drive, i know it offers a coupon, but on shawne's (um, rightstuf's) weekly specials he is not going to let you use a coupon on those low prices. it's okay; you are getting it at a bargain once you start researching how much this stuff sells for.
even with shawne's great weekly specials on rightstuf, i still often check DDD because sometimes DDD can match or beat him. however they don't have the same level of customer service, although they do have free shipping.
sorry i went on and on! i guess you can tell i really like my anime. ;) it isn't a hobby for everyone.
another absolute favorite of mine to recommend to you is ranma 1/2 but i have a way for you to save $ on that at least hopefully.
i was first introduced to several sets by a friend as gifts, but it took me a full two years before i began doing my own research, and becoming a budding "otaku." i have very few sets in my collection because of finances but i enjoy the few i have.
the one above is on sale this week, normal price is $59.98 but this one's at $35.99.

the one i would highly recommend as your "first" set would be
slayers: with the infamous Lina Inverse, played by Megumi Hayashibara, a japanese seiyuu (voice actress). that one's here:
