Two Reasons Why The Harry Potter Series Changed My Life. The first is a direct result of the books themselves: she credits HP with kick-starting her adult imagination, which eventually led to her picking up a pen and writing herself. The second is that HP brought her to fandom, and she talks a bit about the non-writing related ways that fandom changed her life, with special reference to social attitudes and esp. sexuality.
That's how Harry Potter changed my life. One, perhaps obvious; it made me a writer, a dreamer, a creator, and the other, less so; it made me comfortable with my sexuality when most of my friends struggle with guilt and shame, twenty-first century or no. Believe me when I say I can't even imagine who I would be without those things, without the experiences fandom, first Harry Potter and then many others, including Torchwood, has granted me.
It's a short metapost, and to the point. Go on, go read :D
