So, I showed
lucymonster The History Boys today! And ye gods I love that movie. The things is, the more you read, the more you'll see that literature is actually about losers. And you don't catch God poncing around in his underpants. And there is no period so remote as the recent past. And, oh wow, there is no better way of forgetting something than by commemorating it.
But but every time I see this movie it makes me saaaad because it's so close to perfect and yet SO FULL OF FAIL.
me: sigh history boys, k
K: pretty much, yeah
history boys, ngh
also yes, my copy is definitely at home
me: how is it so close to perfect and yet so fail?
K: I do not know
me: it causes me great pain
K: probably because a guy wrote it
me: because a straight guy wrote it
presumably straight. if he isn't, he has serious Issues
K: exactly!
me: DEAR ALAN BENNET: NOT ALL HOMOSEXUALS STRUGGLE NOT TO FONDLE TEENAGERS
IF YOU THINK THEY DO I SHALL ASSUME THAT YOU STRUGGLE NOT TO GROPE TEENAGE GIRLS
which is your problem
not the problem of the homosexual population at large!
K: EXACTLY. ALAN BENNETT, YOU HAD BETTER BE TAKING NOTES HERE
me: perhaps many straight men do struggle not to grope young girls? This might explain a lot.
K: uuuuugh. i hope not.
me: i seem to remember a lecture from my english teacher (male) about how old guys will always be perving on young girls
apparently it is inconcievable that 50-year old guys would be admiring 50-year old women and thinking "damn, that is a nice piece of middle-aged lady" when they could be checking out young girls instead?
K: that sounds suspiciously familiar
what the hell is so unappealing about checking out people your own age or near to? sigh
me: ANYWAY BASICALLY I SUSPECT ALAN BENNET IS A PERVY OLD DUDE
K: I AGREE
me: and thus he condemned poor Posner at a life of PERVY DUDITUDE
sadface
Now you should all go and read
When our falsehoods are divided by Fahye. Because Fahye is NOT a pervy old dude, unlike some playwrights I could name.
