♥ I am going to be having a change in my RL in 2010. I've reactivated my admission at a local community college, and I begin classes in the spring term. I'm excited but also nervous and worried and a bit flaily and eeep. My plan is to do basics at the community college then transfer to get my bachelor's in history/education. I'd like to become a teacher, and I finally have an opportunity to go back to school, so it's sort of really cool (albeit terrifying, too).
♥ With the RL change, my schedule at work has to be changed to accommodate it. I am hoping my Boss approves the change. If not, I have to likely work retail and make a lot less money for the time I'm in school. I know it'll be worth the hard work and tolerance of job etc., because it's for a career and degree, but I get stressed worrying about stuff, so I'll be glad when the Boss makes a decision.
♥ So, any college students reading this, give me advice or tips! I haven't been to school in, uh, thirteen years? Gah! Does everyone take laptops to class? Does anyone use paper and pen anymore? I'll be starting off with just a couple of classes in spring to get my feet wet again and get used to school/the routine before I commit to more classes in the fall.
♥ Obviously, this means that my thoughts of moving are on hold for a few years. Fortunately, once I have a degree, I can consider moving just about anywhere if I no longer want to be in this area by that time. Until then, is there anyone in the DFW area who would like to get together for lunch at some point? It'd be kinda nice to know some fandom folks in RL. LOL
♥ Anyway, expect lots of RL rambling about the whole 'going back to college when in your 30s' experience from my POV once I start classes, as well as moments of extreme panic and 'eeep why did I do this OMG' etc.
♥ I've finally started the ABC prompts. My goal is to work on those over the next few months. Things have been a bit busy around here lately, so I just haven't had as much time as I'd like. I'm going to get more of them written, though. There are some inspiring prompts that will demand my attention once I have a chance to focus. LOL
♥ OMG. Monday is my 10th fanfic writing anniversary. *just noticed the calendar* Gah. I had hoped to do something fun to commemorate the day. Might need to focus on freeing up most of it so I can write drabbles or something. Work on the ABC fics. I have to go meet with an advisor that afternoon, but I'm so going to do something to celebrate. Maybe a couple of ficlets? Any ideas? I'm so happy to have been part of such amazing fandoms in those 10 years and proud of myself for actually sticking with this writing thing after posting the first thing on a whim that I can't not do something that day. LOL
♥ Still totally OTPing my boys. I've been reading Kirk/McCoy fic, but I've failed lately at commenting. I need to get better at taking the time to do it because I know how much I love receiving even a 'enjoyed it' comment when I post fic.
♥ Need to get some more editing done on collab fic with
andrealyn. Writing with her is such fun that I'd rather write new stuff than edit what we've already written. LOL *is bad*
♥ I'm excited about Yuletide! I don't participate, but I always know that I'll spend several days reading fics in huge varieties of fandoms once that archive is open. I'll also be reading
hermione_smut & Hermione-centric fics at the various HP holiday fests, and Kirk/McCoy fics at the Star Trek Big Bang and Star Trek holiday slash exchange. *rolls around in new fic in upcoming months*
♥ I'm waiting for
kbficexchange to start posting. I'm sort of not sure wtf is up with that, since there was an extension beyond the original date of posting, and there hasn't been any other post about new posting date. I've also seen a fic written for it posted publicly, which made me think maybe it had been canceled but I couldn't find anything about it. Anyone know what's going on?
♥ New TV season has given me a few shows that I enjoy enough to continue watching, and a couple that I don't particularly like but still watch for some odd reason. On the 'enjoying it well enough so far or actually really like it' list, there's Flashforward, Trauma, NCIS LA, Three Rivers, and The Good Wife. On the 'things about it bug me yet I still watch' list, there's Glee and Mercy. Yeah, I know, my lack of OMG GLEE love puts me on opposite sides as most of my f-list, it seems, but I just can't get into it beyond 'the music is good' and 'that kid is tolerable'. I keep watching, though, waiting for whatever spark has addicted most people around. LOL
♥ As for old shows, I'm enjoying most of those, too. Merlin continues to be a lovely thing (even if I still haven't gotten obsessive like my Heather, but that might be due to lack of time and Kirk/McCoy demanding too much attention). I totally ship like OTP4 and Morgana/Uther and various others, but I haven't started following any LJ comms for fic or anything. Any suggestions? I finished Season 2 of Project Runway Australia and was actually fond of the final three so didn't care who won. The talent was great this year. Top Chef hasn't caught me that much, mostly because I'm not particularly rooting for anyone. I like most of them, and the few I don't like aren't really going to make it to the top, I don't think, because competition is so strong this year. Project Runway has been better this season than the last couple, for challenges and more focus on design and less on Teh Drama. Cold Case continues to make me sniffle every week. CSI NY is going well, and I like the plot with Danny. Bones is good this season. CSI and Dollhouse are still being watched. Really, there isn't anything that I normally watch that hasn't started off pretty well. That's always a positive.
♥ I need to hit up Amazon used books to buy some new reading material that's not fanfic related, since that's mostly what I read these days *sheepish* With Christmas coming up (btw, expect a holiday card poll in the next week or two!), I might buy myself a few new books. Any suggestions? I tend to like mysteries (Poirot is like my favorite) and fantasy is alright if it's got good characters & is somewhat original. Drama can be okay but I hate things that make me cry LOL
♥ I hope that everyone is doing well and having a great week! *hugs and loves you all*
