Okay. Here are some random things that I've bookmarked recently to rec. It's a variety of pairings, including three that I don't even normally read at all! I know, odd, but they're fantastic stories, so I'm encouraging everyone to read them even if they're not your normal pairings, either! If you're going to be bored around the holidays (like me), this might give you some fun holiday reading!
♥ Charlie/Hermione:
Jigsaw Falling Into Place by Anon, Adult. Summary: Hermione does something she might not regret as much as she thinks. My Thoughts: This is a beautiful fic for one of my absolute favorite pairings ever so, yeah, I loved it. The characterizations are great (Not just Charlie and Hermione but Harry and George, too), the emotion is lovely, and it just flowed so well that it left me wanting more. It's one of the best Charlie/Hermione that I've read, with emotion and depth and just gah! I recced it earlier this month but I'm reccing it again because it's just that good!
♥ Dean Winchester/Hermione Granger:
In the Cool of the Evening by
Kendas. Adult. Summary: She thinks maybe this is something she should have done as a teenager, but then there weren’t many cars around Hogwarts, except for a certain blue Ford Anglia. My Thoughts: This is a crossover between Harry Potter & Supernatural with a pairing that I love. Kendas develops the characters so perfectly, and the emotion throughout is just amazing. It made me smile and sniffle and I hated to see it end.
♥ Marcus/Katie:
Wildflowers by Anon, Adult. My thoughts: Not a pairing I normally read, but I tried it and enjoyed it. The grandmother and her relationship with Katie is what hooked me, and it made me miss my gran a lot. It's a sweet little romance with interesting characters that isn't the "cliche" Katie/Marcus.
♥ Dean/Seamus:
The Wall In Between by Anon, Adult. Summary: Seamus had wandered in from his bedroom wearing only a threadbare pair of red polka-dotted boxer shorts. And it's all downhill from there. My Thoughts: This was just a sweet story with good characters and very 'boy' behavior. It had me grinning in several parts, and I liked the way it was paced.
♥ Harry/Hermione/Ron:
Trio Art by "Anon", Adult. My thoughts: Gnurgh! Gah! Drool! Happy sigh! *incoherent babbling*
♥ Ron/Harry:
Death at the Manor, a mystery by Alasdair Head, Adult. Summary: A house party hosted at Malfoy Manor becomes dashed awkward for the guests when some thoughtless blighter starts killing people. My Thoughts: This has been recced a lot, but I figured I'd rec it anyway. It's Harry/Ron, but it's the Pansy/Seamus secondary plot that totally had me hooked. It's done in a tongue-in-cheek style a la Agatha Christie and Gosford Park type, with a lot of wit and humor. Good characterizations and very entertaining.
♥ Harry/Severus:
The White Road by perverse_idyll, Adult. Summary: One day, comfortably set up in the afterlife, Lily Evans Potter switches on the telly and gets hooked on the Harry Potter show. My Thoughts: I'm not a fan of Snarry. I'm not even a fan of reading Snape in fic that isn't gen, generally, which is why it's probably odd that I'm reccing two different Snape fics today. Of course, it also means that the fics are brilliant because they got me past my "eh, snape sex? :/" attitude. This fic, in particular, is just amazing. I read it days ago, but I'm still squeeing over it. Lily's characterization is just brilliant, and the other characterizations are so canon and fleshed out and just gah! I couldn't stop reading once I started, and I'm reccing it anyone who enjoys a good story and who likes to be awed by brilliant writing regardless of pairing. Just so good!
♥ Hermione/Severus:
Seven-Year Hitch by Anon, Adult. Summary: Severus damn near died in the Shrieking Shack, but Hermione found a way to save him. However, there was a price, and she's going to have to keep paying it. My Thoughts: The characterizations here are unbelievable. They're so plausible and canon and perfect. The story is not a typical cliche, and there's such an intriguing plot woven throughout that I couldn't stop reading.
♥ Pansy/Seamus:
Difficult by
heather1184, Any Age. Summary: Pansy finds herself confused by a sort-of conversation with Seamus. My Thoughts: This is so freaking adorable! Gah! Heather is an amazing author, regardless of ship, but her Seamus is one of the best I've ever read, in particular. This is flirty and sweet and just makes me wish it hadn't ended.
♥ Harry/Draco:
The White Dragon by Anon, Adult. Summary: Even knights in shining armour need white dragons to save them occasionally. My Thoughts: This is another pairing that I don't usually read. I actually clicked on this because there's a Charlie/Hermione sub-pairing, but I got hooked from the start. It deals with a sensitive subject matter, in regards to Teddy and child psychology, and it was done very well. Harry and Draco's characterizations are real and flawed and seemed plausible to me. It was just really well done.
♥ James/Lily(/Sirius):
Shh by Anon, Adult. Summary: Under the Invisibility Cloak, Lily and James can do whatever they want without his friends seeing. Lily isn't sure she ought to like that quite so much. My Thoughts: This was just very hot and fun. Good characterizations, especially Peter being part of the Marauders and not just some tag-along, and Lily's internal thoughts were really good.
♥ Sirius/Lily(/James):
Call of Duty by Anon, Adult. Summary: Lily hasn’t shagged her fiancé in four months, seventeen days, and almost 10 hours. But it’s not that he would have noticed. My Thoughts: I just really like this threesome and all pairings within. This is another hot fic with a good tension and characterizations. Nice and hot, which is good for winter, right?
♥ Cedric/Hermione:
For Our Allotted Time is the Passing of a Shadow by
florahart, Adult. Summary: Ten years after Harry Potter won the Tri-Wizard Tournament alone, a dream that isn't a dream brings some of the players back together. My Thoughts: Flora wrote this fic a couple of years ago, but it's one that some people might not have read. It's long and plotty and unbelievable. I just read it again for the first time since she originally posted, and I was on the edge of my seat throughout. It takes canon and twists it and turns it and makes this plausible AU that you'll wish was really canon. The characterizations are excellent, and the relationship between Hermione and Cedric develops in such a great way.
♥ Charlie/Hermione:
Learning to Trust Charlie by
florahart, Adult. Summary: Hermione stared at the drops of condensation sliding slick down the outside of her glass, following one as it joined the growing ring-puddle forming on the tabletop. My Thoughts: This is another older fic by Flora that I just read again. It stands as one of the top five Charlie/Hermione fics ever, as well as one of my top 10 favorite any pairing fics, I'd say. The characterizations, the plot, the development, just everything. Flora has the gift to tell a story and make any pairing plausible, even ones I'd normally never read, so when she writes a pairing that I already love, it's like double Christmas! If you've not read it, go do so! If you have, go read it again!
♥ Hermione/Multiple:
Harem by
scifichick774, Adult. Summary: Hermione Granger wanted revenge. She received a harem. Pairings: Hermione/Abraxas, Hermione/Barty Jr., Hermione/Cedric, Hermione/Fred, Hermione/Gideon, Hermione/Regulus, Hermione/Salazar. My Thoughts: This fic is just amazing. Kris is a talented author, one of my favorites and I suggest reading anything she's done. This is a work in progress with an interesting plot and fantastic characterizations. It's creative, and I can't wait to read more!
♥ Hermione/Draco:
A Pound of Flesh by Pennilyn Novus, Adult. Summary: One night at a strip club, Hermione is faced with someone from her past, and an opportunity too good to pass up. What starts as revenge quickly grows into something else, and she may find it to be more than she can handle. My Thoughts: This is a fic I found on AFF.Net one night when I was in a bad mood and looking for something silly to read. I'll totally admit that I saw the summary and went "snerk" and clicked on a whim to see if it was just PWP or something interesting. I'm really glad that I clicked because it turned out to be this wonderful, complex, plotty fic with really solid characterizations (after the first few chapters, it really develops more) all-around based on a rather cliche plot idea (revenge etc) that had me eyerolling a little before I read it. It's incomplete, and I've got one person reading it now so that I can squee with her when it updates. Now, maybe I'll have more! Give it a chance if you enjoy interesting plot and Draco/Hermione because it's got me hooked, and I'm pretty picky about both those things.
♥ James/Sirius
One by
heather11483. Rated: Any Age. Summary: Sirius and James arrive at Hogwarts. My Thoughts: I love James/Sirius. It's one of my favorite slash pairings, so I'm bouncy that Heather has claimed them over at
7snogs. This first story doesn't disappoint at all. The characterizations of James and Sirius are just so perfect for 11 year old boys with a bit of attitude and insecurity. Go read this and tell her to write more!
♥ Draco/Neville
Better Solution by Anon. Rated: Adult. Summary: Draco didn't get off unscarred, at the end of the war, and if he had to get used to his new life, that didn't mean he wouldn’t take something better if it came along. My Thoughts: Ah, another of my favorite slash pairings. First, characterizations. Draco was just spot-on, especially for the circumstances, and Neville was lovely, too. The house elf is a great addition to the story. The plot that guides it is interesting, and I really enjoyed the disabilities that both characters were dealing with. It's also got some great UST and resolution by the end. Lovely longer one-shot.
♥ Moody/Percy
The Fisher King by Anon. Rated: Adult. Summary: In which quests and grails are overrated, and virtue is not. My Thoughts: I almost didn't try this because of the pairing, but I was intrigued and generally enjoy Percy, so I gave it a chance. I'm so glad that I did. The characterizations are really well done. Percy is amazing, and Moody is wonderful. It fits so perfectly in canon and it has such great emotion that it really lingered even after I'd finished reading. If you like Percy, don't get scared by the pairing. Just take a chance and read.
♥ Fred/Hermione
Tricky Business by Anon. Rated: PG13. Summary: She flirts by the textbook, though she is probably unaware of it, and I immediately feel rather bad for her, because she doesn't have a hope in hell. My Thoughts: This is an AU fic told from a POV that's different and entertaining. I just smiled throughout this and went "awww" and laughed several times. The characterizations are great (notice a trend in fics I rec? LOL) and it just flows beautifully. I loved seeing events in canon from different viewpoint and seeing a possible post-DH world with our Fred.
