Tell me what you want (January prompt 2)

Dec 27, 2007 17:51

He’s had this talk with Ray over and over and over. He’s stopped believing that they will ever move any further forwards with it. Any progress seems to be shadowed by all the negative truths that get brought up as they have the same discussion about the difference between a perfect world and the one they both live in.

Ray knows what Ren wants. At least Ren’s reached the point now that he believes Ray when he says that it’s what he wants as well.

But, that makes it all the harder to take. The thought that Ray’s fears could be founded makes Ren feel something akin to hate. Hate for officers that he doesn’t know, and worse for those that he does. It’s a dangerous enough job without the worry that if they knew, one crucial day Ray’s back up might take that little bit longer to arrive.

He feels awful about it. He doesn’t want to hate, but if Ray thinks that these people could be that offended by it that they’d risk his life without a second thought, maybe it’s true. He hates that they could potentially take Ray away from him, and he hates that they stand between Ren and so many things that he wanted.

More than wanting to be able to show affection in public, more than wanting to tell the world how deeply in love he’s falling, or even just let the people they count as friends know about them, more than wanting to no longer have to sneak around and be careful what he says and does. More than any of that, he wants Ray to be safe and happy. He wants Ray to come back to him alive and unhurt. Every single day.

That’s enough to want, he can only hope that he gets it.
