I'm moving to New York City!

Jul 14, 2007 18:35

As some of you already know that on September 18th 2007 I'll be moving to New York. Where I'm planing to start a New Life in a New City and a whole New Year meaning It's going to be my birthday on the 22nd. It's the next huge step in life for me.. some people say that I'm pretty brave and I have a lot of balls for doing what I"m about to do.. others are really happy and excited about want I'm going to do. Telling me "Follow your heart and dreams!" some don't really want me to go...but have strange ways of showing it.

In the past few months I've been selling/getting rid of a lot of my stuff on and off of Ebay just trying to raise some money for my move. I won't know for sure how much money I'll have saved until closer to the date. But it's looking like about 9 to 10 grand.

When I move to New York I won't know hardly anyone there...just a little..

But I've been talking to a few members on the website called CouchSurfing.com.. Where I'm hoping *Crossing Fingers* I'll be able to crash on their couch while I look for an apartment in Brooklyn. The people seem really excited to meet me and I as well.. Why Brooklyn? I've been told that BK is that place to be... Plus I'm planning on applying to some of the airlines at JFK airport as a ramp service tech /where house person. And Brooklyn is a lot closer to JFK than Manhattan.

I've been checking the New York's CL "Rooms & Shares" section everyday .. and I see some rooms within my budget of $500-600 dollars a month.. But it's hard to check them out since I'm still living in California. That's where the couch surfers come in and help.. I understand that $500-600 isn't much.. but it's what I could afford without having a job when I move there.. Don't get me wrong I'm going to be submitting my resume online way before I move so I can give some of the airlines the heads up. I'm an honest & loyal hard worker guy with a super clean DMV and Criminal Background.... knock on plastic...

I figure If I'm able I would join a union and work for a while and then reap the benefits. I've checked into it and some airlines have pretty good benefits.. i.e. cheap flights... Later down the line I would love to say.. "I'm going to spend the weekend at ______ want to join me?!"

The things I'm going to take will pretty much have to fit within my backpack and another bag...along with my copy of Paulo Coelho's Alchemist.

I fully understand what I'm about to do is going to be a difficult task... but it doesn't have to be if I put my heart and mind to it...and having sweet little old ladies pray for me at church isn't bad either. As well getting a nice recommendation from my current boss. I see it as an adventure in life that I must take...A single person shouldn't go through life thinking about that "What If" or have "Regrets".

Wish me luck...

Alejandro.
