Europe

I really intended to post on here as Europe went, to remind myself later, but damned if I've had any free time since getting here. Our professors run us ragged, everyone's getting sick. But I still love it here, so much, Europe and it's old-world charm.

London was fabulous, Paris even better. I didn't like Paris at first, but then suddenly I fell in love with it just when it was time to go. Sitting on the Seine, eating sandwiches and fruit, drinking wine as the tourist boats snapped pictures as they went past... it was nice. It was beautiful. It sort of stole my heart away forever, that day, and now I wouldn't mind living there. Because I am a geek, I tried to image Mercutio there sometimes, or George and Nicolas, Lestat from his mortal time in Paris as it was... again. Geek. But it's difficult now; everything is different and my obsessions with those characters have weakened after over a year of neglect.

Vienna is all right. I'm too excited to go to Venice next, and too novice to both the German language and the history to really be interested in things here. I can't help taking pictures of the Tanz der Vampire posters they had up, with DREW SARICH as Krolock, I was so amused and appalled simultaneously, although I guess he does pull off that long-haired vampire look well. And since my school group toddled all over the Hapsburg palaces, with a focus on Maria Theresa and Elizabeth, it was difficult to resist Sisi's appeal as well. I now have postcards to put on the walls of my apartment next year, and have seen her devastatingly tiny-waisted dresses. Besides her postcards, I have all sorts of other art ones. There were exhibits in London and Paris on the Pre-Raphaelites that were AMAZING, I could have happily stolen all of the paintings. Then in the Albertina today I bought a Rubens postcard, one of his sketches of a child that is simply exquisite.

Europe is turning me into quite the minor delinquent. I climbed atop the police station at the Eiffel tower to touch the metal support (this involved a lot of climbing up rock-cement things in my dress. They don't make it easy, but it was no match against my tree-climbing honed skills) and barely made it away before a policeman strode purposely over. And now at the Albertine today I kissed the glass frame of one of Durer's paintings... ahaha. um. yeah. <3

Contrary to that I've been very well-behaved. I suppose I have too much work to frolic around at night, get drunk, dance, any of the things I thought I'd do. Our damned journals are simply too easy to fall behind on.

Venice next! Mayhaps I will write up the things I can't include in my academic journals so I don't forget them. Otherwise, with my memory, I definitely will.

EDIT: AND DAMNATION I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANY OF MY MUSICALS ANYWHERE. THEY SIMPLY DO NOT PUT DVD STORES ANYWHERE NEAR THE TOURISTS. OR THE CAPITALS. *sulks*
