Hey howdy folks, I'm here at Ft Sam Houston in San Antonio, texas posting on my shiny newish iPhone. Most of you have been following along with my boot camp adventures thanks to the tireless efforts of loopy, but since I left ft benning, I've been sort of remiss with the whole writing thing which may just possibly have something to do with this gadget from which I'm posting.

I'm settling in nicely here. The climate here is a lot like vegas, so I'm adjusting pretty well. The training environment is a big change from benning though since we're a co-ed company and benning was very much NOT co-ed. Many distractions in the classroom and in formation. Too bad they're all about 19... Ah well.

My bunkmate is the only other person in the world I've ever met named Goebel (outside of my own family, of course), and I'm really starting to hate him. He never shuts up, he's always sitting on my bunk and generally exisiting in what little personal space I have. We're on fireguard right now, sitting in the corner "office" between bravo and Charlie bays (bays being the large bunk rooms in the barracks) I'm not really sure what the he'll we're supposed to be guarding or from whom we're guarding it, but here we are nonetheless. And the giant attention whore (and i mean giant, he's like 6'7") won't stop talking to me even though any normal person would have gotten the hint that I'm not feeling like chatting from the monosyllabic grunts. Normally we get along fine, but today he's just rubbing me raw. And no, we're not related. He's from Michigan, we're from Iowa. Though he's related to the goebels that brewed Goebel beer, so that's something.

Man, this is really sort of stream of consciousnessy. Hrm. Important happenings of late. I'm maintaining an absurdly high gpa, which would be awesome but for the fact that I hurt myself on a platoon run on Monday and thus couldn't take the apft. Since I technically failed the pt test, I don't get to move to the next phase of privieges. Which mainly just means that when the rest of my platoon gets to wear civvies and leave base, I have to stay here and run details for the cadre. No worries about that though, I'll phase after the next apft in a couple weeks.

And no, I'm not hurt bad. Tendonitis of my right Achilles tendon. I had an awesome limp for a couple days that I tried mostly unsuccessfully to turn into either a pimp walk or a pirate swagger, but I'm walking and running okay now. I should be fine by the time I come back from Christmas exodus, which is two weeks that I'll be spending in vegas mit der loopyfrau. I had thought about splitting my time between there and Chicago, but the logistics of the situation didn't work out the way I'd hoped. For what it's worth, if things work out the way I hope, I should be able to spend about a month in and around Chicago come march/april.

Okay, that's enough for now. Posting from a phone, while easier than than I thought it would be, is still pretty rough.

Blargh. Okay, ask me any question and I'll give you an answer. Maybe more, they may even be true/terrible to know.

Oh, also? I have a whole new appreciation of skippy's list. Especially #s 58 and 131.

ETA: new address follows. No weird corner coloring necessary (I still have trouble believing any of you had trouble with that).
