I mean, woman.
Anyways, I totally forgot to post that I finally have a job! I am the new Program Assistant at USC's Center for International Studies. So yes, I have now entered the real world of employment.
My first day will be this coming Friday. I am so stoked! And before I was on the fence about grad school, but now that I got this job I will be eligible to try and get tuition remission from SC, so basically go to grad school for free. So I think it would definitely be a mistake to pass that opportunity up, so the plan these days is to keep this job for the next few years and go to grad school while I'm at it. So with this job, my life has definitely been thrown into a certain path, but a direction nonetheless which is what I've been looking for.
Another recent development is my newfound sense of closure about band. By chance (thanks to Andrea and Fabian), I was able to attend SC's first football home game. I was not sure how I was going to feel going back because I still was really involved this past summer and felt sad only a couple weeks before turning in my uniform and trumpet in for the last time. But at the game I definitely felt content about being an alumna. Not that I don't miss certain things and that it wasn't really weird being on the other side, but it just felt good to know that I had a great four years in band and that now I could move on and enjoy a different kind of experience. I guess when I think back I was just so privileged to have so many great experiences with band that there wasn't really much left to accomplish. I mean, of course performing at the Grammy's or for Korn would've been cool haha, but for the most part, I got to do everything that I would've wanted to. It was all "enough." So I definitely feel much better about that situation.
By the way, can I just say on a sidenote that Southern black college bands are seriously the shit! With a few other people this past weekend I attended the Angel City Classic, which is basically like a West Coast southern classic, and the experience was pretty much exactly like the movie "Drumline." So yeah, if you ever get a chance to see the band of an historically black college perform, you should definitely take it!
Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention that I went to the Korn/Family Values concert. It was amazing! I can feel myself turning into a metalhead more and more...
