Why can't the English learn to speak?

Or more accurately, why can't Brian learn to be considerate?

I know this, and I'm okay with it. He left home this morning with his binder full of nerdery, and he was going to get a ride to the game with a coworker who also plays. At 4:10, when I was getting ready to leave work, I specifically asked him if he was going straight there with Nik. He said yes. So, I skipped out of work early, scooted home to let out Molly, scarfed a quick dinner, put my phone on vibrate, and went to the little movie theater in my mall for a 5:05 showing of The Darjeeling Limited.

At 5:40 I get a text message from him asking where I am. I text back (sitting in the back of the theater, with no sound on, so there's no possible way I'd bother anyone) that I'm in a movie. He then CALLS, and I step outside to take the call. He's at the apartment, he can't get in. Turns out he left some crap at home that he needed, and the office can't get him in because they lost the master keys.

(Why does he have to go to the office for keys? Because in SEPTEMBER he lost his second set of apartment keys, and has yet to find them. I suggested twice that he get a new set made, since he clearly wasn't going to find the old ones, but he didn't. I don't like to nag, so I left it alone.)

So, because Nik's involved too, and I don't want to ruin one of his friends' plans because Brian's being inconsiderate, I leave my movie 20 minutes in to go let him in to get his crap. He just doesn't think anything through.

There were ample opportunities for this evening to have gone right- he could have told me when I asked if he was going right to the game that no, he had to go home first for some stuff, and that he needed me to let him in. He could have replaced his keys weeks ago and been able to let himself in. He could have just gone with Nik to keep him company and not played this time. There are lots of options here that don't involve making me leave my movie, waste $10, and have to come up with new plans.

So I came back, let him in without a word, and left. I ended up going back to the mall and wandering around for a bit. I found a perfume that I can actually wear (it's light and powdery and pleasant despite its doofy name), and some new skin care stuff that I just used and find to be phenomenal, and now I'm sitting here ranting and watching My Fair Lady, so all is fairly well. I was furious, but now I'm just annoyed, but I know I really SHOULD be pissed, because he does this kind of brainless thing all the time, and it's all the more upsetting because he doesn't mean to be rude, he just doesn't THINK about anyone but himself when he gets in game mode. I'm not sure how I'm going to react when he finally gets home.
