This is a new experience for me, seeing a presidential campaign through the lens of social networking.  Getting a text from The Redheaded Lawyer that proposes that it's "best we not talk politics :)", as our opinions seem to have diverged to a degree.  Seeing Facebook friends become "fans of" various candidates and causes and wondering why they would do that.  Learning more as LJ friends post information and links (I love that other people have more time and inclination to dig up links and sources than I do - thank you all!)

I didn't see Palin's speech live, but I did manage to DVR all but the first couple minutes, and watch it late into the night last night.  I think she's a fine public speaker (certainly more literate and well-spoken than GWB).  I will never vote for her or encourage others to vote for her.  Her policies and platforms scare the hell out of me, and not in that wellworn fearmongering way we've all become so accustomed to over the past 7 years.

It's not even about the war in Iraq to me. It's not even really about the environment to me.  (although, taking polar bears off the endangered species list? seriously? that's just a bad PR move, at the very least)  I don't care much about the tax structure in this country, and even Social Security doesn't worry me all that much right now.  It's not about Hope, or Change.

It's about what John McCain and Sarah Palin want to tell me I can or cannot do with my uterus.

It's that simple to me right now.

A Facebook friend (who happens to be a very good musician) put it brilliantly last night:

[redacted] would rather drink the smart inspiring kool aid than the dumb scary kind

Yes, I believe I'll take my Koolaid in the blue variety, thank you.
