Tears of Blood, House Of Rain
-Tlaloc is a real, or should I say the belief in him is; the mythos surrounding him is one of the oldest in pre Columbian North America. Occurring from Mexico, to the American Southwest.
-I don’t own Indy, Mutt, Marion or any of the other’s just borrowing them for my story
They’d been at the jungle camp for days and the rain was relentless, coming in waves, drowning out all other sounds. Indy was starting to get worried, since their arrival he hadn’t seen Mutt, lord knew what the kid was being put through and not knowing just made him worry more. Night had fallen, he could see lights on in the tent that belonged to Dr Spalko, he craned his head to keep the tent in sight from where he sat at the entrance to his own; trussed up to a camp chair. The endless rain had slacked off an hour before, now in the silence he could hear the familiar night sounds of the surrounding jungle and than screaming and people running. All he could do was sit and listen; this was his version of hell.
Mutt Williams sat blind folded, he could feel the cold steel of the bands that clamped his hands and feet, as well as the unforgiving firmness of the chair beneath him. He’d lost track of time, all he remembered was being captured and than separated from Indy, vaguely hearing his mom’s voice and than blackness. He’d been dragged to the chair and bound, his stomach rumbled and he willed it to be quiet; he needed food but now wasn’t the time. Suddenly the tent erupted into action; he heard people running, voices in Russian and a woman screaming. “Mom, mom!” he yelled thrashing around, someone ripped the blind fold away from his eyes and he tried to focus. “Don’t look sweetheart” came Marion Ravenswood’s voice, Mutt swiveled his eyes to the left and saw her sitting in a similar chair, restrained in the same way. “Are you ok?” Mutt choked back emotion and tried wrenching his legs, he felt useless.
“Mutt, listen to me, we don’t have much time; I know you want to help but you can help by doing exactly what I say”. Marion tried to convey, “When Spalko returns with the skull don’t look at it, shut your eyes no matter what you see or hear do you understand?” “Sure but we need to get out of here, my blade’s in my front pocket and if I can….” Mutt’s words where silenced by the entrance of Spalko. She commanded respect and it showed, “Two, good. Now we start with Ms Ravenwood and move to her son if she refuses to talk. “Mutt felt his chair dragged to face his mother and away from the crystal skull that Spalko had placed facing his mother.”Remember I love you" she mouthed out as her eyes where held open by a Russian solider, Marion tried to twist away but it was too much, the skull began to exert it's other worldly pull on her.
"Fight, do something!" Mutt yelled as he watched her eyes glass over, Spalko annoyed at the out burst back handed Mutt. "If you do not be quite I'll silence you myself boy" she glared at him with a feral glint in her eyes before returning to watch Marion's demise. He couldn't stand it; he had to do something, anything to stop this. Squirming and moving his legs he felt the comforting weight of his switch blade in his front pocket; if he could just get it out of his pocket. But how? Suddenly an un-earthly scream from his mother caught his attention and without thinking he lunged forward, crushing the switch blade in his pocket and depressing the trigger. The blade opened inside his pocket slicing into his upper thigh and burying itself there; held by the fabric. Frenzied by the pain in his thigh and the sight of his mother now crying tears of blood, Mutt started yelling.
"I warned you boy" Spalko seethed, "remove him" she demanded of the nearest solider, "make sure he cannot escape". Two soldiers removed Mutt from the chair, tied him hands to feet with thick rope and hauled him out of the tent. The last sight of his mother he had was that of blood running down her face, it would haunt him forever.
Indy saw the approach of the two soldiers, they had something between them; being dragged along the ground. Whatever it was it was putting up a fight, they stopped half way to his tent while one of the soldiers used the butt of his rifle to club the person into silence. At the entrance to his tent, the soldiers tossed in their captive whom rolled to the back of the tent in a heap. "Mutt!" Indy gasped, shocked beyond belief, the kid's leg was bleeding and his arms/back where bruised. Turning to the soldiers who where standing there he tried to remain calm. "You need to untie me so I can help him, he needs medical attention." When this got nothing but a smirk he continued, anger rising in his voice, "you’re going to have two dead people on your hands if you don't let me help him damn it!”
Luck was on my side this time Indy thought as he grabbed his satchel (somehow he'd convinced the soldiers to not only untie him but get his satchel to him); of course his gun had been removed but there as a small pouch containing medical supplies he always kept in there. Of course Spalko would hear of this and he'd have to deal with her but as long as she was busy with the skull he had time to think and help Mutt. Moving the lantern over from the table where it had been left Indy slowly approached the boy who had remained where he'd been tossed; "Hey partner, it's me" he spoke trying to leave the worry out of his voice, Mutt's eyes flickered opened, brown meeting brown. With a moan he struggled to sit up, "my mom she's in there and she's being killed, we have to help her" it all came out in a garbled rush. The pain was evident in his eyes, so young to be looking so old and scared he thought as he gently pushed Mutt back down and untied the ropes. “I know but you can help your mother first by letting me help you, do you honestly think you can take on Spalko in your condition? "He leveled a stare at Mutt who glared back through the haze of emotions running through his brain, "good, now that we're clear on that let's see where the blood is coming from". It took some wiggling and twisting to get Mutt out of his jeans, "promise you won't loose my biker boots" Mutt asked as Indy rolled his jeans up and put them in his satchel. "Scouts honor partner" Indy flashed back with a smile, for once Mutt returned the smile letting it creep to his eyes. "Now that's what I like to see" Indy chuckled as he ghosted a kiss over the boy’s forehead than turned his attention to stop the bleeding.
The blade was still stuck in Mutt's thigh; it had taken delicate handy work to get the boys jeans off without disturbing it. "I'm ok, really just yank it out and let's go get my mom" Mutt said showing more bravado than he actually possessed at the moment. "Your not going anywhere with that leg wound, a good two days before you'll be able to walk" Indy replied as he found the gauze and moved to take out the knife, " this is going to hurt but I'll be quick". "Do I get a kiss afterwards" Mutt asked before burying his head in the pillow and blankets at his side. "Christ, mother fucker god damn it!" was the response once he had the blade free and had quickly sewn up the gash. "Here's your kiss" Indy said as he settled Mutt onto his lap amid the pile of blankets and pillows, eager to forget the pain in his thigh Mutt greedily leaned in, looking for more. Pulling away before things become too heated Indy grabbed a canteen and force Mutt to swallow several pain pills, grumbling the whole time Mutt settled back in Indy's embrace looking for another kiss.
Indy was sprawled back, enjoying the feeling of Mutt kissing his chest when a series of screams tore through the night. He felt Mutt's whole body stiffen and the boy tried to roll out of the embrace, making a mighty attempt to reach to door of the tent. Indy flattened him than turned down the lantern, no sense in drawing attention to themselves. "Let me go!" Mutt hissed trying to kick free and only succeeding in creating waves of pain down his leg and back. Indy inched forward to just above Mutt's ear and whispered with deadly seriousness, "we need to stay here, you need to calm down, and going out there is going to get you killed". He'd managed to work Mutt upright again and back into his lap, tucking more blankets around them to preclude another escape attempt when the screaming ratcheted up a notch.
In the guttering light of the lantern he could see tears running down the boys cheeks as he buried his head against Indy's chest; he ran his fingers through the boy’s hair trying to offer comfort. Two gun shots ended the screaming and he felt Mutt go deathly still, thinking quickly Indy laid them down and started rocking Mutt. "Listen, listen partner I'm going to tell you a story and I know it's not going to be much but I'm here for you no matter what happens. You have to be strong, stronger than your pain ok." All Mutt could answer back was a muffled sob....Indy began his story, shifting the boy in his arms so he lay across his chest; arms wrapped tightly around the shivering body he held.
There's a god that the native people in this area believe in, he's called Tlaloc, and his job is to bring the rain when the people need it most. He lives in a house of rain, deep underground, always listening to the prayers of the people. When they need the rain the most, he brings it, to give them life and wash away their tears.
It began to rain, slowly at first than harder, stronger as if responding to his story; maybe miracles do happen. Indy thought as he kept talking trying to focus on Mutt instead of what the next two days would bring.
