Walking down memory lane

I really should be going to bed but the Guns n Roses vid for You Could Be Mine is playing on Rage. I guess this is where I should probably confess to the huge, mad crush I had on Slash back in the day. I also had an unholy love for the song Don't Cry - both versions. It also lead me to discovering Shannon Hoon and so when he came out with a little band called Blind Melon I purchased the cd. And then mourned when he died.

I remember going to see GnR live at the Thunderdome when they toured down here. God it was like a thousand degrees and the organisers/venue owners had to turn off the water in the toilets because people were drinking out of the sink taps and IIRC it was treated water and not safe to drink. The lines for drinks were insane and you weren't allowed to take any bottles in with you. We had to queue for hours and hours in the heat and the queue pretty much went half way around the Dome. They sent a small fire van around spraying people with water. I ended up with heat stroke and spent some time in the first aid area, which meant I missed seeing Rose Tattoo (not that I cared). I ended up being put in an ambulance and taken from the tent area to a proper building where they made me drink something nasty to replace lost electrolites or something. At least I got to use a proper working toilet. I arrived back with my friends in time to see Skid Row take the stage.

And then GnR took the stage and god it was... amazing. A huge concert, huge stage and huge crowd. I think they are the first and last band to play at the Thunderdome - it's actually a racetrack but it's out of the city and very isolated so great for a big noisy concert. I remember seeing people in the car part afterward and they were sleeping in the cars. I didn't get home until after 4am and I was then supposed to be up at 7am for work. I called in sick instead. And I really was feeling sick, a combination of sleep deprivation and heat stroke.

Ah the perils of rock and roll decadence.1 And a misspent youth.

Ok now I really am going to bed.

damnit I have that line from the song in my head and can't remember which GnR song it's from.
