For some reason I was contemplating fandom on the drive home tonight. I decided that if fandom were a person/relationship, then for me Due South would be my favourite ex-lover. Y'know the one you look back on fondly years after the fact and sometimes ponder what might have been. The one you're still friends with and keep in contact with. The one that ended due to circumstance - like they left the country.
Stargate Atlantis - would be the one I'm married to/living in a committed relationship with. The one who even after several years of togetherness, can still make you feel mushy inside. The one you're comfortable with and can't imagine being without.
Supernatural - would be my mistress. The hot new person you meet at a party and hit it off with. The one who despite your marriage to SGA, you just can't deny the physical attraction to. The one you swear was a one night mistake and you're really very happy with SGA, thank you. The one that you suddenly find yourself in various hotels with on an increasingly regular basis. The one you tell yourself 'it's just sex' with. The one you one day realise you've fallen a little bit in love with.
And then one day you realise, that while you miss Due South, and they will always be someone that you chose to love, from now on they're just someone that you used to love. 1. And you realise that you can in fact be in love with SGA and SPN at the same time, but rather than angst over the mess you've created, you introduce SPN to SGA and embark on an 'alternate lifestyle' with the three of you.
