Pokemon Fanfiction (I know, I'm terrible) Ep. 1 + 2

Feb 24, 2008 12:06

Ok, based on Chuckie's suggestion that I get this out here, mostly so that he can get access to them faster, I've decided to start posting the pokemon fanfiction episodes I've been writing on here. Since I haven't written all that many of them--seven, to date--I'll be posting them in chunks every three or four days. The idea when I first began writing these was to create bulleted lists for episodes that I would eventually write out, you know, once time existed again, but as I went on, the narrative work that went into each episode began to expand and expand. The difference is most obvious when you go from the current episode 7 and look back at Episode 1. To get things started right, I'm posting Episodes 1 and 2 in the first post, as episode 1 is essentially background.

Also, final word of warning, I tend to write these fairly late at night, after I've taught, sat at the library for hours, come home, read some more, prepped my next class, and am just about to go to bed. So errors, typos, even grammaticolexical errors aren't that infrequent. Just keep in mind I don't normally get an opportunity to write like this, so it's sort of nice at the end of the (some) day(s) to be able to just write trashy pokemon episodes.

And, there is an uncanny faithfulness not only to the series (post Diamond and Pearl), but also to the games. Each pokemon's attacks and abilities are carefully researched for verisimilitude, the only exception being egg moves, which I don't cross-reference to see if the multiple egg moves I've selected are actually possible to breed through in varying chains. A fault: yes, but one that would take quite a bit more work to correct. I've also tried to destabilize the emphasis on gym battles, they're still there, don't worry, and head more in the direction of contests, which are one of the freshest additions to the series, i think. So without lengthening my preface--if you want to call it that--any longer, enjoy.

Episode 1 - Do you Orre don't ya!

* Mike, Maria, Chuckie and Matt meet aboard the S.S. Marie, the ship headed for the Orre Region.
* The Orre Region has recently been admitted into the official Pokémon Battle and Contest Leagues after years of troubles under the now defeated Team Snag.
* Mike- a trainer from the Sevii Isles dreams of being a top coordinator- with his Staryu.
* Maria- a tough novice trainer, with high hopes for her newly acquired Piplup.
* Chuckie-an experienced trainer from the Johto region, after having placed 8th in the Johto League Finals, he sets his sights on Orre's contest circuit with a tough Yanma.
* Matt- a pokémon aficionado more than a trainer, he hopes to the author the authoritative guide to the region for trainers and coordinators. He comes from theHoenn region with no more than a lightweight laptop, and his trusty Swablu.
* Mike asks Chuckie about the Johto region Finals, but chuckie refuses to say very much. Instead, Chuckie challenges Mike to a appeal round. Maria and Matt agree to judge.
o Staryu uses agility to build up speed then jumps up, turns horizontal and rotates in the air while using water gun, creating a radiant sprinkler effect on the deck.
o Yanma's turn: Yanma uses double team, creating multiple images. The five images then use Signal Beam focusing on a single point in the sky. While the impressive beams create a multicolored cone in the sky, the realyanma , uses quick attack to circle the exterior of the mountain, heading towards its peak. As he approaches the top, the attack ends, but not before bathing him in the sparkle that signals the end of the attack.
o Maria and Matt both declare Chuckie and Yanma the winners.
* Matt points out that Chuckie's Yanma is well trained, bred in fact and tells Mike not to be discouraged. After telling Mike he has a lot of work to do if he hopes to beat him,Chuckie leaves to meet other trainers, and tells Mike he'll meet him again in Blitzen City, where the next Contest is scheduled to take place.
* The boat arrives in Strandmehr Harbor, and the trainers each head their separate ways, for now...

E2 - When life gives you trouble, make remoraid!

* Matt sets up his laptop and begins downloading all known information about Strandmehr Harbor. He also asks Swablu to survey the area from overhead.
* Knowing she'll need at least three pokémon for her first gym encounter in the nearby Dunkelner Boroughs, Maria heads to the beach to capture her first pokémon.
o Maria sees a Krabby walking along the beach and decides to see if she can capture it.
o Piplup uses Pound, Krabby sidesteps the attack then counters with vicegrip. Piplup is stuck in the claw
* Mike heads to the Pokémon center to register his pokédex for the Orre Region. However, when he arrives in the pokémon center, there is chaos everwhere. Nurse Joys are running around with small aquariua of Mantykes. Other trainers run in with more Mantykes. Something appears to be going very wrong in Strandmehr Harbor.
* Mike asks one of the Nurse Joys if he can help. She brings Blissey and explains the situation to Mike as they head to the Beach.
* Maria has Piplup use Bubble to loosen Krabby's grip and escapes, narrowly. Piplup uses Pound after pound, but Krabby continues to sidestep its attacks. Maria has a plan.
* Nurse Joy explains that Mantine from all over the region come here to start families, leaving the Mantykes until they are ready to head back into the ocean. However, the tides are too strong for Mantykes to handle alone. As they grow, Mantykes find Remoraid that help them evolve into Mantine and are then strong enough to join their families in the ocean. However, a recent surge in the strength of tides, coupled with an unexplainable disappearance of Remoraid from the Harbor, has left the Mantykes defenseless.
* Maria has Piplup use Bubble on the sand around Krabby, saturating it until it becomes thicker. Piplup follows up with a pound attack, as Krabby sidesteps the attack it gets lodged into the thick sand. Maria realizes this is her chance and orders Piplup to pound with everything he has. Krabby hardens to raise its defenses, but Maria follows up with Bubble. As she is about to get her pokéball out, several more Mantykes wash onto shore and Mike and Nurse Joy come running over.
* Nurse Joy tells them that the Mantykes have to stay moist and asks Maria's Piplup to use Bubble on the stranded Mantykes. From overhead, Swablu sees the commotion and heads back to tell Matt.
* Mike asks Staryu to use Water Gun on the crowd of Mantyke and suddenly they hear the cry of a Pelipper flying overhead. Nurse Joy realizes that Pelipper might be the one to blame for scaring off the Remoraid and decides that they have to battle it. However, one supersonic attack from Pelipper has Blissey confused. Mike's Staryu uses Water Gun, but the attack misses as Pelipper flies higher. Swablu and Matt arrive and Swablu flies up to battle it in the air. Swablu uses Astonish to surprise it, and follows up with a Sing attack. As Pelipper falls asleep, he falls back onto the beach, where he's once again suceptible to Staryu and Piplup's attacks. After a Bubble, Water Gun combo. Maria throws the pokéball she already had in her hand.
* The ball recoils. The Pelipper is no wild pokémon, it has a trainer. When the discovery is made, a distant red beam recalls Pelipper.
* On their way back to the Pokémon Center they can already see the Remoraid returning to the Harbor.
* As they mull over whose Pelipper that could have been, Joy registers their pokédexes in the Orre Region.
* Maria vows to catch a pokémon soon.
* Mike, Maria and Matt agree to head to Blitzen City together, as it is near to Dunkelner Boroughs, home of Maria's first gym battle.
