There are so many things I love about this, and not just the fact that it combines my two favorite fictional universes. The small things were what struck me the most -- the fact that Dairine, having encountered her fair share of part-machine part-something-else intelligences, always addresses the TARDIS as "she," or the fact that all she really wants to do with a time machine is go back and see Star Wars on opening night (though, frankly, I cannot blame her!), or the simple designation of the Daleks as aresh-hav that combined these two universes in a totally believable way for me. (In fact it has me having second thoughts about the Daleks, who are usually too one-dimensionally evil for me.)

Also, it is now completely obvious to me that Dairine and the Doctor play off each other in some really fascinating ways (especially Eleven -- I've seen some fic with Dairine & Ten, but it was a different vibe), and I vaguely want to write fic where they have a super strange and complicated on-and-off friendship during the years Dairine spends searching for Roshaun.

I am so very glad someone likes this! I was a bit worried that no one would read this, because of all the Ten-meets-Dairine fics and the issues some people have with Moffat. But Eleven's my Doctor, so I couldn't not write him.

the fact that Dairine, having encountered her fair share of part-machine part-something-else intelligences, always addresses the TARDIS as "she,"

It's the little details that make or break stories. And she, more than anyone else in the YW universe, would recognize the TARDIS as far more than a simple machine.

the fact that all she really wants to do with a time machine is go back and see Star Wars on opening night (though, frankly, I cannot blame her!)

Neither can I! (Says the person who's worn a padawan braid since Attack of the Clones was in theaters…)

Daleks: it make sense, doesn't it? I actually find the Cybermen worse in one-dimensionality. The Daleks at least scared me in "Dalek" and were used effectively in TPO/TBB. (I remain grateful that Moffat has said he won't be using them anytime soon.) So I'm glad I'm having you think about them in a new way!

They do. And, I've thought for a while that the relationship that Dairine and Roshaun have is similar to the Doctor and Donna's. Why'd you think Eleven especially?

I vaguely want to write fic where they have a super strange and complicated on-and-off friendship during the years Dairine spends searching for Roshaun.

Oooh-- do it! I think River would be absolutely wonderful mentor for Dairine.
