Okay, MAJOR spoilers for the fourth episode "I do again" airing 8/19
You were warned...
It was tragic and horrible and totally unexpected- I had an inkling when the trailer said something about nothing ever being the same, etc. But I didn't believe it because when was the last time spoilers didn't ruin things?
So maybe I'm the ONLY Eureka fan who didn't know, but I think my mouth fell open. But in a time of horrible deaths (Elizabeth, Carson) can I just say that this one was glorious.
You had everything- the bride who waits with a huge smile on her face only to be told that she'll never get married to that man, the reluctant friends (who so many fangirls have slashed) smiling at each other, the fiance who knows he won't make it entrusting his lover to his rival, the mentor handing it over to the apprentice.
We know from the first season that Eureka recognizes that horrible fact that lovers CAN be separated by death. And yet when it happened I couldn't quite believe it. The relationship between Stark and Carter has been a wonderful and hilarious part of the show from the second episode. Ironically, I didn't like Stark much at first, and yet the rapport he had with Carter made me love them.
So I don't know what this was- a tribute to a character I reluctantly loved or a relationship I adored- but anyway, RIP Nathan Stark- you made my Tuesday evenings so much better.
And because your death was handled, IMO, pretty well, and I think the show is amazing- I plan to stick with it as long as the powers that be let me.
And yay for the Doctor Who reference(s)
eureka,
