I'm running a couple weeks behind in editing pictures, but such is a busy life. The day after the trip to Weldon Brook WMA, winktwice and I headed to White Lake WMA to look for the northern small yellow lady's slipper. And we found them:




That's Cypripedium parviflorum var. makasin, and it is a fairly rare plant in New Jersey, ranked S2 (6-20 occurrences in the state). I found this plant here a couple years ago, but on that hike my camera shutter died so I was unable to take pictures of it, and last year it didn't flower. I also made a fantastic chance find of a single vegetative Tipularia discolor in the woods, which is also rare at S3 (21-100 occurrences). The pictures from the hike are here
