He hated the colour red.
It was a horrible colour to him, never a symbol of love and passion and it could be seen as by certain people. To him it was the colour of pain, death, the embodiment of evil and of the terrible things within the world. It was a painful colour. It was that colour of all the blood which had been spilled across the streets, of innocents who had died because he couldn’t save them, it was the colour of failure in how he could never create a kekkai to save them all the pain and sorrow before their lives were cut so horribly short.
It was the colour of ghosts from the past. Of fire which had engulfed his mother and whisked her away never to be seen again, of a sword which had broken apart his last living relative in its birth, of a head which had once elegantly sat upon a girl’s head only to be torn off by tightening wires at the hand of a friend lost in the blood of both him and her. It was the colour left behind as Subaru lost his eye, the colour left behind as his own hand purposely missed that one vital point, it was the colour of every meeting he had had with that one person since his turning.
Red was a horribly colour. It brought sadness and swept people away with little to no regard for the scars which would be left behind. It was the colour of death, betrayal and pain, that’s all it ever would be to him.
He loved the colour red.
It was a wonderful colour to him, the symbol of care, love, unity and all the passion which came with those few details of life. It was the colour of food, happiness, and well-being for those that sought to make something of their lives. It was the colour of memories from all of those worlds, triumphs over those who sought to injure innocents and steal that which did not belong to them. It was a fiery colour which simply empowered people to do their best, to achieve their set goals within this lifetime and not the next. It was the colour of determination to see things to the end and to work with everything a person had to reach what they wished for.
It was the colour of worlds once visited. Of worlds filled with life and death, wars which would now be long since over with a victory held proudly, of worlds which had given them peace, rest and food, of places which had opened their eyes to new ideas and thoughts about each other and themselves. It was the colour of his brother’s health, the colour of the life force which kept them both at their best; it was the colour which kept them both running for the sake of their lives and others.
Red was a beautiful colour. It brought life to those who took the time to take it within themselves and empowered them to work towards their set goals and wishes. It was the colour of life, determination and power, that’s all it ever would be to him.
He sighed and wrapped his arms around the smaller body which was so alike his own. One day, one day he would help his other self to see that colour in a new light. As he bent down and pressed lips against the other boy’s for a single brief moment, he knew it would just take a matter of time, time which he had to spare, especially on this matter.
