Metropolis was a large city and after days of looking for an apartment Buffy and Dawn were able to agree on one. The apartment was spacious, roomy, lots of windows, but with eye ball hurting paint, and faded flooring. Talking the landlord down on the rent due to the appearance the girls cheered after getting the key to the gem in a lot of rough. It would need a lot of work, paint, and new carpets to be spectacular. Being messy and unpleasant to look at was a benefit because it had been unrented for a long time and they got it cheap.
A few weeks of work cleaning and painting followed by a couple days of moving in furniture and unpacking the apartment was finished. Leaving Dawn at home for her culinary mashups Buffy left the apartment for a stroll around the neighborhood. Sometime later as Buffy was returning she stopped seeing something approach. Superman going into a neighbor’s apartment, but she didn’t hear any call for help.
“Okay Buffy. Spill. What’s going on?” Dawn asked as Buffy shoved some snacks into her coat pockets.
“I’m trying to figure something out. It’s been boring.”
“I’ll get a thermos of hot chocolate.” Dawn replied opening a cabinet door.
Sometime later as Dawn reached to the thermos she asked, “What are we looking for?”
Buffy took a breath but didn’t talk when they heard a loud rustling of fabric. Pointing she whispered, “Watch.”
Dawn silently watched Superman go in to a neighbor’s apartment through her binoculars as he flew in, landed, was a blur, and then slowed pulling a t shirt over his head.
“Our neighbor is Superman.” Buffy whispered as Dawn sat in shock.
Buffy watched Dawn start to talk then stop pointing to their neighbor’s apartment. “Your stunned fish face is funny.”
“Your face is funny.” Dawn replied automatically. “We should get him to come over and help paint that corner of your room we forgot to get when we had those ladders rented.”
“Short jokes? Really?”
