So I just listened to Sweet Charity, which was alot better than expected. My opinion of Cy Coleman's music is generally split down the middle which is probably about how I fealt about it in this context as well, but the story was nice. Its aparently based on a foreign film. Ill want to see it now. Memorable numbers include "Hey Big Spender," which I saw in Fosse, "Rythm of Life," and "Baby Dream Your Dream," which was on a musical theatre mix I had from Garry. The second act, I thought, was far stronger than the first which supports my theory that people aim for that because of people's attention spans.
Then I listened to Act two of The Beggar's Opera, which is REALLY long, but Im really enjoying spread out. I think that pasticcio is very impressive because Ive realized how difficult it must have been to weave those popular pre-existing songs into an independant story.
