My eyes scour the page before me. Heart in my throat. Pulse racing. And the dull ache in my stomach has returned again. Each word lifts my soul and breaks my heart. Each full stop a knife to my breast, a pregnant pause.
I will read it again. And again. And a thousand more times. Devouring the page. Burning your sweet words in to my mind. Into my heart. Holding them as I wish to hold you. Until the next. Until another reaches me and makes my heart soar once more.
I know not how to write in reply. Except to tell you how you are with me always. I feel the ghost of you beside me. The faint touch of your hand in mine as I walk the halls. The lingering scent of you upon the breeze. The heat of your gaze lingers upon my skin.
I feel you here. Bares me through my day. The presence of you beside me keeps me in this place. Reminding me. Constantly whispering to me. Comforting me. Loving me.
My constant companion. Known through even the jealous leagues which separate us. Felt through the distance. And one day I may hold you once again. One day I know you will be beside me once more. Solid. Unwavering. My constant companion. My forever.
And we will speak the words we now utter silently. Those we may only commit to paper. They are more final, yet less real. Insubstantial. Incorporeal. Fleeting eternity. And on that day we will play out the life we long to live. This life we dare not mention out loud.
Our bond thrums beneath my skin. It holds you close, draws me nearer. Close my eyes. It is only your face I see. Only your voice whispering in the silence. I will live out this charade, partake in this masquerade. Knowing it is only that. It is only a temporary insanity. A ruse required to ensure our eternal life together. Our forever love.
