I took Utnapishtim (né Sparky) to the vet yesterday, for shots and such. He weighs nineteen pounds.

I think that's about twice as much cat as I'm supposed to have.

Edit: My mum's coming to visit.

He's enormous. I'm supposed to get special diet food for him.

If you want, I can check at the shelter and see if they have contacts where I could maybe get a discount for you and him?

--Would you? It's kind of expensive. Of course, I'm not supposed to be giving him as many treats, so I'll be saving a bit on that.

Hee. Treating a cat is good once in a while, but all the time and they expect it. I'd be careful - at that size, he may be able to knock you over and get them out of your hand!

I'll check today and let you know tonight, okay? :)

Otherwise, how have you been? Ready for school to start up again?

You know, I really am ready for it to start. I'm so bloody tired of this bookshop job sometimes.

You? What year are you going to be in?

Junior this year - and yeah, I'm excited. I didn't do a whole lot this summer except go to the lake, and I'm looking forwards to like, hanging out with people again.

The classes are so-so, but part of the package!

I don't mind classes--now that I don't have to go to metal shop. That was infuriating.

I'll be a senior. I suspect that my mum decided to visit partly because I told her I might not go to university next year. Might. I said I "might be thinking" of taking a year off. That didn't go over very well.

I uh.. do not have much skill with a welder, let me tell you that. Luckily, I had Eiko and Derek around - they rock with metal shop. :D

Uhoh! Are you going to get the 'You're wasting your life!?!' talk?

What would you do if you took the year off?

Eiko helped me out too with that. Which I badly needed.

Something like that. And I don't know--it might be nice to take a few classes at the local university, see what was interesting.

You could put it to her that way - say that if you go and explore a little bit of what is available, you'll make a choice that's going to be better and something you can stick to in the long run?

This works better if they haven't already decided what you're going to be when you grow up, mind. >.>

No, no. Indecision is a sign of weakness! Clearly this is the start of a path leading to lying in a gutter with a bottle of cheap rum. Or, worse, becoming a conservative.

Could you be both? Lying in the gutter with a bottle of rum, deriding aid programs as 'handouts'?

And .. sorta? Ba is into the idea of me marrying becoming a doctor. I think. Ma has said many many times that she just wants my sister and I to be happy.

Yes! The dole is only for the lazy or stupid!

"Just wants you to be happy" is nice, only there tends to be a lot of additional material attached.
