I haven’t been on LJ for a month due to personal reasons, but during that time, I’ve been reading. Books, physics guides, doujin, medical texts, wiki pages on Japanese cultures, and fanfiction.

Especially fanfiction.

Fandom, why so complicated? D: )

fanfiction, fanfiction recs, fandom: naruto, fandom, fic search, help!, absence, character: sasuke, fic, announcement, flist, character: naruto, discussion, character: sakura, fanfiction: au

I have nothing useful to give you, really, but I would like to say that I think you are awesome! It gets a little depressing how so many people get all worked up about 'of course only this interpretation is good, everything else is wrong and it offends me that people believe and write otherwise, how dare they!' (Haha I am not concise today, it seems.)

I've moved into the D.Gray-man fandom these last few years, and watching the same stuff happen all over again in a different community is a little depressing. The D.Gray-fandom is still small and civil enough that fans of less popular ships are fairly cool-headed, but I keep coming across people (slash fans in particular) who rant about pairing Y/X writers having the nerve to use the ship portmanteau that 'should only be' for the (more popular) pairing X/Y, or about someone else writing pairing Z/X when clearly character X would never be with character Z ('he belongs to character Y!') and besides, 'character X would never be on the bottom...!!'

It's a bit exhausting just looking at all that energy expended on being argumentative. I mean, I'm happy that they have something that makes them happy, but wouldn't their time be better spent glorifying their favourite things rather than attacking someone else's favourite things? But people will be people, and having something to fight about is exciting and an excellent distraction from the indignities of everyday life. Or something.

But I am getting off-track! (I do that a lot.) My point is that it is always wonderful to see someone who acknowledges all sides of an issue, especially in so convoluted a fandom as Naruto. And you are awesome, and sparkle shine. And now I'm feeling guilty for blabbering at you without anything constructive to add to your list of recs, so I'll recommend askerian's OT3 fics, even if you've probably already heard of her.

Also your journal skin/theme/'look' is awesome and pretty! (I like how italics are orange and bolded text is blue.)

Good luck with your studying!

Ohhh! You're moved into DGM? O__O That's great! I love that fandom<33 even though Kanda's fantastic hair is the main reason for my obsession There are some seriously amazing fics out there - and what I love most is that the manga gives writers the opportunity to describe real places~ The setting of the story itself brings a whole other dimension to the writing. Um. ANYWAY.

I suppose wank is unavoidable in every fandom, then? We just have to embrace the good along with the bad - but. But. It's... just really hard sometimes, especially when you end up getting our feelings hurt. The seme-uke shit though is something that should never have existed in the first place - I find that there a distantly sexist plane attached to the "reasons" people provide for who "tops" or who "bottoms".

but wouldn't their time be better spent glorifying their favourite things rather than attacking someone else's favourite things? - I wonder that, too. All these quarrels between people who're supposed to be brought together by the manga they love - I just do not get the point. >8(

Lol, acknowledging all sides of the issue is just... mostly a result of being a long-time lurker. And a scaredy-cat who never worked up the guts to get into a fight. >___>;;

I've read askerian's fics and they are brilliant - even though sometimes, I'll have problems reading through her characterizations of Naruto. Or should I say, Kyuubi? It works for the Teamwork series, considering how that was written years before current canon and follows a divergent timeline, but I'm not usually a big fan of her Naruto in her other works.

But her fic, Locker-Room Therapy, was definitely something else - I loved every moment reading it. It was definitely, imo at least, her most honest characterization of both Sasuke and Naruto to date♥ I love the sheer rawness that seems to emanate from every word of that fic♥

oh, thank you! I had to raid refuted to find a layout that would, idk, show what I was interested in at the moment. The orange and blue reminded me of Naruto and Sasuke respectively, and I just added my default icon to bring in a bit of Sakura as well. XD Plus, it helps that the italic/bold encoding keeps my entries from seeming too boring - I always talk about mundane things and such. ^__^;;

Thank you! Will try my best to get things done!
