...I thought that Kurenai has had the baby because when Naruto learns what Sasuke's been up to, Shikamaru talks to him and casually mentions helping out with the baby. Or maybe I've read too much fanfic. Nonsense, there's no such thing! I'm pretty sure anyway.
Kabuto and Sai would be the bestest, most hilarious set of buddies ever. I mean, I can just see Sai asking about the make-up and "dolls."
Sakura in the medic squad wouldn't have bugged me all that much since that's what she's been training for, and, as we've seen, they can fight as well. Shikamaru as the de facto leader didn't bother me too much either. I mean, he's not technically the leader (though Gaara is that squad's leader and he's not any older) but Shikamaru's noted for strategy. (and can I mention how much I love that Shikaku is one of Tsunade's escort-people at the Kage meetings?). Um, Temari, Chouji and Shikamaru being on the same team...you notice I didn't say much about that.... :/ But a reversal of damsel in distress would rock.
The most exciting thing though is the zombies. Asuma vs. his team! AND HIZASHI!!!! Let the angst begin. :)
- That was my reaction when I read that. D-don't scare me like that ;__; I almost went into cardiac arrest, wahhh./snifflessss. And you owe me tissue. XP
Lol - they totally would. I can almost hear Kankurou thinking What. Is this guy for real? after Sai makes a completely not inappropriate comment about make-up, masculinity and genitals of the male species. >.>;;
I don't know if being a medic was what Sakura was aiming for - I mean, she worked to become stronger so as not to get left behind. I don't think she ever explicitly stated she was going to become a medic, just that "this time, we're going to do it together." Or something. Lol, I don't remember.
I suppose I just wanted to see a girl-in-charge for once. Sure, Shizune is in command - but she in command of the medical decision, because that's where women belong. :/ Technically, Temari was more qualified (Jounin, actual long range fighter while Shikamaru's skills are more suited for support) and experienced but I guess Shikamaru could be a way for Kishi to show off some neat battle plans he's no doubt cooked up. Sometimes, I get the impression that Kishi rushes things in his hurry to get to the fight already. XD
I get that Gaara was Commander General and not much older, but he was Kazekage. And Shikamaru-- I don't think any of the other Generals were Chuunins. It isn't even because I like Temari - like I said, it just leapt out at me when I first saw the panel as the logical choice. So when I tore my eyes away from the art (and blinking at seeing Temari and Shikamaru together), and actually read the text, I was a bit furious shocked. O:
I... get that it's a good thing that Shikamaru and Chouji are together♥ but I sort of wish Ino was there too.♥ I've just gotten so used to thinking "Ino-Shika-Chou" whenever any of the three come up that without Ino there, it just feels like something is missing. ;___; But what really bewilders me is why Chouji is in the long-range division./confusedddd
I'm trying and failing not to get my hopes up for the Hyuuga showdown because nothing ever goes the way I want it to in this manga. DX
OMG. Asuma VS his teammm<333 I'm kind of hoping it'll happen. Because damn it, it's been so long since I've seen Ino-Shika-Chou in action. ;___;
You have me wibbling in all kinds of Team Ten love from this comment. lol.
I actually, really, truly did think Kurenai'd had the kid, but (being the geek that I am) checked on Naruto-pedia and it sounds like she hasn't. Randomly, I also learned her favorite phrase is "beauty fades quickly?" Aaaaand.... now she sounds more interesting to me than I'd previously thought.
I guess I'd thought Sakura was learning medical things since she's training with Tsunade, but then Tsunade is also a master of being Really Strong, so maybe that's what Sakura learned?
It IS too bad that no woman is a leader of a fighting division. However, I'm not surprised by Shikamaru. Its part of his story to get responsiblity thrust on him, and his various reactions to that (grumbling but accepting). If Naruto is the Main Character, and Sasuke is a Tragic Hero, I think Shikamaru has...become (who knows if this was always intended from the start) someone else who Kishi treats as being on a hero's journey as well. I'd label him an Everyman or even an Everyman Hero, despite his unusual intelligence. Kishi gives him more page time because he's become interested in his story too....
Chouji being in a long range ighting division makes ZERO sense. And YES I totally want all the Ino-Shika-Chou together. I didn't like Termari being there instead. And not mostly not because of the Termari/Shika vs. ShikaIno, but because Ino-Shika-Chou's story/theme of friendship is their story, not Chouji, Shikamaru's and any random blonde chick's. There's a difference between the two and I want the Team Ten love. And also, a face-off between Zombie! Asuma and Team Ten.
Now you have me TL;DRing about Team Ten-- D:indira14November 11 2010, 01:26:43 UTC
So she hasn't had the baby? I... really don't know whether I should be glad about that or not. >.>
beauty fades quickly - *___* Wow~ That really is kind of deep - or at least, unusual. You have to wonder what's going on inside a person's head for that to be her favorite phrase. For some reason, it feels very ~right~ The fact that she's an illusionist/genjutsu master may have something to do with that. *__*
Tsunade is also a master of being Really Strong, so maybe that's what Sakura learned - Lol, the Rescure-Gaara arc definitely proves that. Unfortunately, the Really Strong part doesn't apply to the emotional aspect of her personality. :p According to imdb she also has a great deal of raw physical strength even without her chakra - during the battle against Sasori she pulled on Sasori's wire/cord to veer it away from Chiyo with sheer will >.>;;
Its part of his story to get responsiblity thrust on him - That's true! Poor guy always get so much shoved on his shoulders but he stills grudgingly accepts it. I wonder if his dream of having an ordinary wife, two kids and a house with a picket fence will ever come true? With the way the manga is going, I think that'll be a long time in coming. XD
I'd label him an Everyman or even an Everyman Hero, despite his unusual intelligence. - Whether he's an Everyman Hero or Traditional Hero, Shikamar strikes me as more heroic than Naruto will ever be actually. It's hard to, idk, identify with Naruto (lol. I'll laugh the day I meet someone so wide-hearted and all around ~good~ in RL). Shikamaru on the other hand just wants a normal life and for everything to stop being so troublesome and like most of us, he doesn't get what he wants and yet still reacts in a believable way when he gets thrust into situations he doesn't want to. The prime example would be the Hidan-Kakuzu Arc. I didn't take him for a vengeful guy before that but afterwards I like how he reacted - it's only logical (and yet driven by emotion). But what I like most is that he has no "set" personality like Naruto/Sasuke/many others. Sure, there are ingrained character traits like "laziness" or "complaining" or "supposed indifference" but there' more to him than that./TL;DR
...I hope that made sense. I got a bt carried away. >.>
And YES I totally want all the Ino-Shika-Chou together. - Me too! ;__: Actually, I wanted all the team members fighting together, with the exception of team eight, because I like Neji and Hinata where they are just fine. ♥__♥ But I don't know how they could've worked together - and by that, I don't mean that I'm doubting their excellent teamwork; I'm just wondering how they could've been in the same division given how their skills differ. :(
because Ino-Shika-Chou's story/theme of friendship is their story, not Chouji, Shikamaru's and any random blonde chick's - This is agreed upon. Despite my views as a Temari/Shikamaru supporter, I'll gladly give precedence to friendship/character development over romance. For example, even if I supported, say, Tenten/Neji (which I really don't get), I'd have wanted Lee there as well, because without him it'd feel a bit empty. Which is why I get a bit frustrated when people exacerbate rough patches in Sasuke and Sakura's relationship and undermine their 'moments' in part I. The Naruto/Sasuke relationship will probably always be the main focus, but proper weight should be given to all other relationships in the manga.
I think the Team Ten relationship isn't really as ~prominent~ in fandom despite their manga moments (like Ino-saving-Sakura in FoD, Asumana giving them all identical earrings, and asuma's death). Team 7 has great amount of fic and so so does Team 8 and Team Gai (I've read excellent stories about the latter). But why is Team Ten fic/art so rare? People often tend to portray Ino preoccupied with boys/Sakura, Chouji preoccupied with food and not at all important and Shikamaru with-- it's sad, but fandom doesn't really look past his outer traits or tends to just use him as someone who analyzes a situation from afar to give the reader a third party's insight./RAMBLING IS RAMBLING. EXCUSE ME. DX
Re: Now you have me TL;DRing about Team Ten-- D:hungrytiger11November 11 2010, 04:18:29 UTC
You can't hide what you mean behind strike-outs!!!! (I was SO Happy that Hinata and Neji were fighting together! It gives hope for the Hizashi/ Actually-still-alive-Hyuuga. Though, man. Where's Hiashi? Is he STILL away training Hanabi? how long has that been?)
I think you are dead on about the appeal of Shikamaru. To be truthful, I always thought that it was one character that Kishimoto hadn't really planned to be that major of a character but found the same appeal you mentioned and his part grew (um, incidently, this is also why, to me atleast it seemed likely InoShika seemed more...likely, what with them always being in panels together and him noticing her all the time. Then, I think Temari became a more interesting pairing to him as Shikamaru himself became a more interesting character to him. .... of course, I always read to much into things....)
I've never understood why Team Ten is the least popular team. (though team eight isn't super popular either, but one underrstand there with the bugs.)At a guess...I think its because a lot of people see Ino as being a bitch because she's a "rival" for Sakura (personally, I don't get it. I mean, Sakura was the one who "broke up" their friendship. And they were both, like, twelve. Everyone's a bit awful at twelve.) and, well, because Chouji is fat. This is awful, but I think it might be true. :( CHOUJI YOU ARE ADORABLE!!!!! I hate they get sterotyped at the food-obessed, boy-obessed and the lazy ass. :( Fandom in general has a bad hapbit of minimizing friendships; this is why I think in ALL of the teams, the balance of the relationships is often ignored or skewed. I mean, if it there all, most of the time the focus is turning the teams into a threesome. Which is fine in some cases (team seven, I'd really see that happening!) but its sort of sad you don't see more pure friendship stories....
PS Sakura must be trained at least somewhat as a medic because she uses poison on her harem to make them sleep, and saves the lives of Karin, Hinata and Gaara with...medic-stuff. (has no clue what "medic stuff" actually is the Naruto-verse...)
During the Chuunin exam battle, Orochimaru used Zombies of the former Kages. These zombies had these men's powers and forms, but did not seem to have either self-awareness nor awareness of others/their surroundings. THey were essentially like Kankrou's puppets minus any strings.
But Zombie!Deidra seemed to be a re-animated version of himself. Same form, same powers, same personality and even memories. The only thing he didn't remember was his own death. He also seemed to be easily led by Kabu-maru, but was still, ultimately, making his own decisions.
Which way do you think these Famoous Ninja Zombies will be? How will that effect things? Will Zombie! Asuma be convinced to fight these other ninja? What would happen if he sees Team Ten? or KURENAI? OH! What is Hizashi doesn't recognize Neji! WHAT IF HE DOES?
Which way do you think these Famoous Ninja Zombies will be? - Well, the new chapter's out and now you know♥ But if you still want my opinion, I honestly thought that they were either going to be:
a. puppets with no self-awareness or memories of the life they've lived because this would present a conflict of "They're just a shell of their former self. He's not the person you used to know. Don't hesitate! Just kill them!"
I imagine that this would've caused effective drama - but it's too typical in shounen.
OR
b. They would've retained their former memories and yet be unable to go against Madara/Kabuchimaru's will because they're bound by the summoning spell.
Frankly, I think the latter would present a greater conflict among the characters and would've served it's purpose as a dramatic plot element without being too typical. I would love to see manipulated!zombie!Itachi fight against Sasuke if they ever cross paths, that is for whatever reason and (given that he reacts sanely and not wit infuriating indifference) have Sasuke be all "Brother! This isn't you - snap out of it!" after a long and tedious exchange of blows.
Um, um - I sort of have to go now (my UPS is almost out of power, the electricity's been gone for 10 mins - ugh) but will say more on Asuma and Hyuuga later! D:
Ahem. I'm back now after a day of mind-numbingly boring classes
Will Zombie! Asuma be convinced to fight these other ninja? What would happen if he sees Team Ten? or KURENAI? - Oh gawd, you're full of questions that make me squeal in excitement XD There are so many possibilities at this point and I really just hope Kishimoto explores them all *__* Did you see zombie!Asuma in 516? I don't think the poor guy who did not deserve to die has any choice regarding whether he refuses to fight or not - Kabuto's little monologue implies that he can control the zombies with his will, but he's so sneaky and subtle about it, it leaves you questioning to what what seeing as the zombies do seem to have the ability to think for themselves. We get a panel with him thinking "I have a bad feeling about this" which leaves me a bit D:
I really do hope he gets to see his team again - that isn't particularly unlikely given that the manga seems to make a big deal our of student-teacher themes in fact, it makes a big deal out of every sort of relationshio except those pertaining to romance >.> And as for what i think may happen if it that particular meeting does take place: a lot of Shikamaru-Asuma angst interaction. I think we can consider Shikamru to be something like ~Asuma's protége~, they clearly had a close relationship and it strikes me as, idk, fitting that Shikamaru took up smoking right after Asuma's death. It was like he was trying to fill a space that belonged to a person who was no longer there - trying to shoulder responsibility out of his own volition for once, not only to get revenge but Ino and Chouji's sake. This suddenly seems like a good idea for ficcage >.>;; So yes, if they ever cross paths, I expect a lot of team angst, but mostly another Everyman Hero reaction on Shikamaru's part, because I don't think he's taken zombies of former teachers into a/c in whatever plan h's no doubt cooked up. (Although, a few characterization leaps and hard-hearted maturity from chouji and Ino's parts would be a nice surprise :D)
What is Hizashi doesn't recognize Neji! WHAT IF HE DOES? - Why are you s intent on getting my hopes up. WHY ;__; Ahem. You are the Hyuuga writer/expert here - you tell me. XD
Heartbreak is clearly in the offing - TOTES. I couldn't have said it any better than this.♥
....okay, I'll stop with the peer pressure, but seriously, yes. You have my take on how I see the Asuma/Team Ten dynamic exactly. And, yeah, it'll definitey be another Everyman Hero moment.
Unless, of course, Kishi uses this whole Zombie thing like another Pain's-magical-re-lifer-power thing. But how likely is that?
