I mourn for all the ideas that pop up into my head and will never have life breathed into them.
5 people Yagami Light kissed and subsequently killed
Death Note ensemble, slight AU | 5 people Light kissed and subsequently killed (and one he tries to and fails)
I. "Eww, Onii-san, what's gotten into you?" Sayu exclaims as she wipes the top of her head with a kitchen towel. Light laughs and shakes his head. "It’s good luck for your first day at college, and believe me you'll need it." Sayu grimaces, complaining about her perfect hair now being ruined before rushing out the door. Light bids his mother a good day before stepping out after his sister.
8 hours and 27 minutes later, Sayu lies dead in one of the mafia's underground holding cells, the remnants of a fake death note ripped to pieces around her. Light excuses himself from his colleagues, some of whom squeeze his shoulder, some of whom avoid his gaze. He burns a piece of notebook paper on his way home. Sayu Yagami, written in cursive, dances at the top.
II. He's had the whole thing planned out for months and months now. There is the memory loss, the solitary confinement, the greedy capitalist doing everything right. Everything he'd planned, calculated, deduced had been to the T and god it had been almost too easy until L had cuffed them together. Light suspects there is something more here than simply an extreme method to flush the real Kira out. It's always been a power play between them, like two queens on a chessboard with no other pieces, so when L abruptly kisses him in the middle of a duvet tugging war, Light kisses him back at brutally as he can. He isn't about to lose to L at another of his silly games.
L dies in his arms the next day, and Light's face contorts as L breathes his last breath. The world will now come under the rule of a new god.
III. Takada Kiyomi proved more useful than not. There were a number of reasons Light first propositioned her back when they were freshmen in Tokyo University. First and foremost, Misa needed to be kept out of L's sight. The next most important was one of a personal ego boost really - crowned Miss Tokyo University, the male student body lusted over her. Having her on his arm asserted that he was the best pick of the lot.
5 years later, he laughs at just how much the gods favour him when Takada walks right back into his open embrace. This is our world, he says, yours and mine to rule. His hands are tangled in her hair, his lips on her, I've missed you.
Help me, she would later beg on the phone, scared and terrified. I'll get you out, he would reply.
Takada is burned alive, her remains so charred her dental records are needed to confirm her identity.
IV. The first thing Light learns about Amane Misa is she's smarter than she looks. The second thing he learns is that she's basically devoted her life to him. He loves having her around. Besides the fact that she threw suspicion back onto him and multiplied it by ten, she deals with L fantastically and has the sexiest eyes known to mankind. That man, he points, and he is dead in the evening. These men, he assigns, and it is done by the time he gets home. Aren't you proud of me? She asks, and he kisses her twice, once on each eye. I love you, Misa, he says and almost means it.
When Misa is shot to death by a crazy fan at a public photo shoot, the headlines splash his face and name coupled to: DEVASTATED. The thing with celebrities, Light realises, is they become bolder and bolder as their careers age until they become a liability. He takes care of it before anyone can suspect anything.
V. Near. The child dressed in white with shocking silver hair and a strange fetish for stupid toys is supposedly L's successor. L, M, N. Light scoffs at the notion. Mello, for starters, was a ticking time bomb, and Near is as far removed from L as humanely possible. L was cool, calm, calculated and like all geniuses of their time sans Light, deranged. Near shares this trait albeit in a twisted way. He is underhanded, he fights dirty, and he makes up his own rules, like playing chess against a person who doesn't use chess pieces to play the game. He's getting close though, too close for comfort, and before the rest of the task force can be alerted, Light needs to do something.
He makes the deal in the end, and asks to see Near with shining eyes of blood red. Nate Rivers; he smiles, and Near realises far, far too late that his last 45 seconds have started.
And just for good measure, because the world will always be his, he kisses Nate Rivers on the forehead before his heart times out.
i. Yagami Light stares at himself in the mirror. A haggard, sunken eyed version of him stares back. How long has it been since he's seen his family? Days? Weeks? Years? Oh wait, he realises with a start, his reflection betraying no such reaction, they're all dead. Light lifts his right hand and presses it against the mirror. The glasses is cool beneath his fingertips and a fog starts to outline his long, slender fingers. How long has it been since he world first became his? He presses his forehead to the glass. His whole life, perhaps. He presses his lips to the glass. It is ice cold, and it reverberates through every fibre of his being.
He writes the word Kira a million times in the Death Note.
Yagami Light dies in Kira's place.
